FlyFest is coming to Redding!
Join us September 25 and 26 at the Redding Civic Auditorium for Fly Fishers International FlyFest 2026, presented by The Fly Shop. Two full days of casting demonstrations, fly tying, workshops, destination seminars, conservation programming and plenty of time spent talking fly fishing.
This yearâs headline presenter is George Daniel, with presentations and instruction throughout the event, plus the FFI Dinner & Auction Friday evening where George will serve as keynote speaker.
Day passes are just $20 and available online or in person at The Fly Shop. FlyFest attendees can also receive a one-time 15% discount at The Fly Shop on September 25 and 26 with proof of attendance.

âThe Lower Sac has been steadily good with healthy fish throughout the river. In the morning expect to see some BWO hatches followed by caddis later in the day through the evening. Flows are on the drop, currently around 7,600 CFS.â

Gel spun backing isnât something you want to load with a pencil and a buddy.
When youâre dealing with heavier backing for big fish, proper tension matters. If it goes on too loose, it can dig into itself under pressure, seize up, and turn a good fish into a very bad day.
Joel walks through how we load 65 lb gel-spun backing with the right tension using our line winder here at The Fly Shop.

âFishing has been good. Salmon and browns are around and thereâs a few summer run steelhead still in. Flows have been around 450. The river is fishing well and itâs a good way to get out of the heat.â
