🎒 Back-to-School Backpack Safety Tips! 🎒

As students head back to school, don't forget that the way they wear and pack their backpack can make a big difference in preventing neck, shoulder, and back pain.

✅ Choose a backpack with wide, padded shoulder straps.
✅ Always wear both shoulder straps to evenly distribute weight.
✅ Keep the backpack snug against the back, not hanging low.
✅ Pack only what is needed for the day—your child's backpack should weigh no more than 10–15% of their body weight.
✅ Place heavier items closest to the back for better balance.

If your child complains of back pain, numbness, tingling, or has red marks on their shoulders after wearing their backpack, it may be time to lighten the load or have their posture evaluated.

Healthy habits now can help prevent aches and pains all school year long. If you have questions about your child's posture or backpack-related discomfort, our physical therapists are here to help!

🍎 Wishing all students a healthy, successful, and pain-free school year!

Progress Isn't Always Fast—But It's Still Progress. 💙

Recovery isn't always measured by giant leaps. Sometimes it's:
✔️ Standing up with less pain.
✔️ Walking a little farther than yesterday.
✔️ Regaining a few more degrees of motion.
✔️ Feeling stronger with everyday activities.

Healing takes time, consistency, and patience. There will be good days and challenging days, but every step forward matters—even the small ones.

At Burch Physical Therapy, we're here to celebrate every milestone and help you stay on track toward your goals. Don't get discouraged if progress feels slow. Keep showing up, keep doing your home exercises, and trust the process.

Small improvements today lead to big results tomorrow. 💪

You work hard all week, then pack all your activity into the weekend. Whether you're hitting the trails, playing pickleball, golfing, running a race, or tackling projects around the house, your body can feel the effects.

Weekend warriors are more likely to experience injuries when they:

The good news? You don't have to stop doing what you love.

Physical therapy can help you:
✔️ Prevent injuries before they happen
✔️ Improve strength, flexibility, and mobility
✔️ Recover from strains, sprains, and overuse injuries
✔️ Get back to your favorite activities safely and confidently

The Exer-Genie® is a portable resistance training device that uses an adjustable rope-and-friction system to create smooth, consistent resistance during movement. Unlike bands or free weights, the resistance can be precisely adjusted to challenge athletes through sprinting, shuffling, pulling, walking, and other sport-specific drills. It's a versatile tool used in physical therapy and sports performance to safely build strength, power, and speed while progressing athletes back to competition.

Here at Burch Physical Therapy, we have adequate outdoor and inside turf space to use this device to its full potential for return-to-sport training, conditioning, and to use with specific tasks and athletic activity.

🏃‍♀️ Don't Skip Your Home Exercise Program! 🏃‍♂️

Your time in physical therapy is only part of the recovery process. The exercises your physical therapist gives you to do at home—your Home Exercise Program (HEP)—are just as important as your visits in the clinic.

✨ Why is your HEP so important?
✅ Helps reduce pain and stiffness
✅ Improves strength, flexibility, and mobility
✅ Reinforces the progress made during therapy sessions
✅ Speeds up recovery and helps you reach your goals sooner
✅ Reduces the risk of re-injury

Think of your therapy appointments as the roadmap, and your home exercises as the miles you travel between visits. Every time you complete your HEP, you're taking another step toward feeling stronger and moving better.

Remember, consistency is key! Even 10–15 minutes a day can make a big difference.

Have questions about your exercises? Don't guess—ask your physical therapist! We're here to help you succeed every step of the way.

💙 Your recovery doesn't stop when you leave the clinic—it continues at home!

🚶‍♀️ Take a Step Toward Better Health: The Benefits of Walking 🚶‍♂️

Sometimes the simplest activities have the biggest impact. Walking is one of the best ways to improve your overall health, stay active, and support your body — and it doesn’t require a gym membership or fancy equipment!

Regular walking can help:

✅ Improve strength and endurance – Walking keeps your muscles active and helps build the stamina needed for daily activities.
❤️ Support heart health – A consistent walking routine can improve cardiovascular fitness and circulation.
🦴 Maintain joint health – Movement helps keep joints mobile and can reduce stiffness.
⚖️ Improve balance and stability – Walking challenges your coordination and helps support fall prevention.
😊 Boost mood and reduce stress – Time spent moving outdoors can benefit both your physical and mental well-being.
💪 Support recovery and injury prevention – A proper walking routine can be an important part of maintaining mobility and returning to activity after injury.

At Burch Physical Therapy, we encourage movement that fits your lifestyle. Whether you’re walking around your neighborhood, exploring Redding’s beautiful trails, or simply adding more steps to your day, every step counts!

Not sure how much activity is right for you or dealing with pain that limits your walking? Our team is here to help you move better and get back to the activities you enjoy. 💙

At Burch Physical Therapy, we believe learning never stops.

Continuing education allows us to stay current with the latest research and advancements so we can provide the highest quality care for our patients.

This year, Bryan, Kat, and Taylor attended the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT) Annual Meeting in Seattle. Throughout the conference, they explored the latest evidence on ACL reconstruction and rehabilitation, return-to-sport testing, and innovative treatment strategies that can benefit patients recovering from a wide variety of orthopedic injuries—not just ACL tears.

We're excited to bring these evidence-based techniques back to our clinic and continue providing the best care possible for our community.

Learning. Growing. Bringing the latest in physical therapy home to you.
