On Load Tap Changer Monitoring Systems: What is an OLTC and why is it needed?

On Load Tap Changers (OLTCs) are a specific type of voltage regulator that can be fitted to Power Transformers. OLTC regulate connection points from the Transmission line for high-voltage or low-voltage and will vary the transformer ratio while the transformer is energized and carrying load.
