Garment Worker Center recently spoke with garment workers in LA about whether they prefer piece rate pay — being paid pennies per operation, a practice that was recently outlawed in California but is still legal throughout much of the country — or if they prefer getting paid a guaranteed minimum wage.

Guess which they preferred?

Sign up for the FABRIC Act to help pass federal legislation that will eliminate the outdated, unfair piece rate system once and for all.

A time of year that should be dedicated to rest, reflection and gratitude has become a season of frenzied shopping and consumerism.

This , we hope you’ll join us in taking a breath. Today we PAUSE to think about our buying habits and the reasons why we over-shop. We hope folks will realize that often, our money could be best spent elsewhere — like supporting the work of organizations dedicated to overhauling the system, rather than feeding it and its harm to people and our planet.

Join us today in supporting organizations such as Remake, Slow Factory, or Seed2Shirt (and Redress Raleigh too!) who focus on sustainability & human rights in fashion. Or look to other local groups, like Don't Waste Durham, who are focused on sustainability in North Carolina.

UPDATE from :

Due to an overwhelming number of illnesses in the Greater Good community, have decided to postpone the Sustainable Business Forum originally scheduled for this Thursday, November 17th.

They are planning on rescheduling for sometime in early spring, so students — keep an eye out for more information in the future.

HOWEVER, since they still have access to the Textiles Convention Center this Thursday, they have decided to host a fun social meeting at 6:30!

They will be making reusable bags from worn out t-shirts, watching a movie, and offering hot chocolate and cookies 😋

If you have any spare t-shirts or scissors, please bring them (if not they will be providing some)!

See you there 💚🐺
