“CodeMap is designed to supplement developers’ current work by helping them navigate and understand complex codebases,” said Xu. “Rather than replacing human expertise, it gives developers a clearer starting point, a structured map of the system and context-aware explanations that support their own reasoning. My goal is for tools like CodeMap to become practical assistants that help developers navigate complexity, rather than add another layer of complexity.”

Congrats to Assistant Professor Dongkuan (DK) Xu on receiving a 2026 NC State Engineering Dean’s Applied AI Research Accelerator Award!
Xu is leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital and the NC State Wilson College of Textiles; their project is focused on developing a scalable agentic infrastructure that transforms single-molecule microscopy into an intelligent, automated discovery platform.
