Based on the AKC Rally® Regulations, Obedience Regulations, and Judge's Guidelines: “The AKC Rally® Regulations/Obedience Regulations and Judge's Guidelines cannot cover every situation, nor can they substitute for common sense.” A handler entering the Rally or Obedience ring with a baby strapped to their body presents a significant safety concern and should not be permitted to compete. While this specific circumstance is not expressly addressed in the regulations, the safety and welfare of all participants, including the exhibitor, child, dog, judge, stewards, and ring personnel, must remain the primary consideration....

Qualifying Performance One of the responsibilities we carry as judges is applying the regulations consistently and fairly — even in situations that can feel awkward or uncomfortable in the moment. The AKC Rally Regulations (Chapter 2, Section 3) are straightforward on this point: handlers who bring or offer food, toys, or any item that appears to be a training device or aid must receive a non-qualifying score....

Obedience and Rally Updates
Obedience: The Board VOTED to approve a request of the Delegate Companion Events Committee to amend the Obedience Regulations, removing the words “must run” from the current statement(s) and replacing them with “Fast,” meaning that the handler and dog must move forward at a noticeably accelerated speed. Effective immediately. Obedience: The Norfolk Terrier has been added to the list of breeds in Appendix B approved to jump three-quarter jump heights....
