A good friend of mine (Tony Gairo) wrote a 4 horn arrangement for one of my original tunes, "A Tribute to James Brown" Tracking the rhythm section Thursday with guest engineer Matt Molchany, so I can be the bass player/musical director. Im basing the new feel on a beat I heard from James" original drummer, Clyde Stubbenfield. Psyched !!!

Film scoring session for "The 238 Million Dollar Apartment" by French film maker Toby Hunter (far left) who flew in to attend the sessions. I'm seated at the console with executive producer Richard Master. Producer Craig Kastelnik standing in the rear near my Kurzweil synth. I can't remember the name of the mystery drummer with the cap. Fun sessions, good memories!

Roger Nichols' wife and daughter find a cassette with a "rough mix" of a Steely Dan song that was supposed to be on the Gaucho CD, but the 2" master tape was accidentally erased by an assistant engineer. Roger was the tracking engineer for SD.

I remember the days of spending hours getting the "killer" snare drum sound. It could take a whole day getting a kit dialed in. There are studios still doing this....NOT US! Our Yamaha Recording Series drum kit from the 90s never lets me down. Its usually mic'd up and ready to go. 15-20 minutes tops. Some drummers bring a snare & cymbals, but the days of spending hours tweaking drum sounds are long gone at SpectraSound. If you want a different kick or snare we have hundreds of samples!
