Coming up in a couple of weeks!

04/25/2026

Tonight! At Myrtle Rhode Island with The Dambuilders who were incredible last night in NYC playing to a packed room. Hope to see you fine Providence folks there!

Tonight at the Mercury Lounge in NYC with The Dambuilders! We have to downgrade an original bassist Mike Galinsky appearance on stage to “possible” due to a Savannah Bananas rain preponememt (is that a word?) from Saturday to Friday at Yankee Stadium that will make it trickier for him to get there in time for our set, but we’re holding out hope. 🤞(No he doesn’t play for them but he is an important part of their team nonetheless. ⚾️)

Providence! It’s been a while. Such an important part of our story going back to when we spent the summer of 1990 in a sublet on the East Side. We are thrilled to be playing Myrtle Rhode Island with The Dambuilders on Saturday, April 25. And this is the fifth (of five) of Rachael’s homemade embroidered show flyers.

Rachael has been at the embroidery machine again! We are so stoked to be playing with our old pals The Dambuilders in our old neighborhood at the Mercury Lounge in New York City on Friday, April 24. Derek is going to be traveling but we just couldn’t say no to playing with The Dambuilders, so Chris and Rachael’s son Finn will be filling in for him on guitar for this show, as well as the following night’s show in Providence at Myrtle Rhode Island . But wait there’s more! Founding Sleepyhead bassist Mike Galinsky just happens to be in town that night with the Savannah Bananas and yes he will be sitting in on a couple of tunes! NOT TO BE MISSED! 😀

Can’t believe we’re playing with the Dambuilders later this month for the first time in 30ish years!❤️❤️

OUT TODAY ON MAGIC DOOR! The Dambuilders revisit one of their most beloved songs with a newly re-recorded 2026 version of “Shrine,” a standout single from their 1994 album Encendedor. A defining track of the ‘90s indie rock landscape—blending jagged guitar pop with the band’s signature violin textures—“Shrine” captured a cross-cultural indie-rock love story that helped the band break into wider audiences and earn Modern Rock chart and MTV 120 Minutes success.

“Shrine 2026” features original members Dave Derby (bass/vocals), Kevin March (drums/vocals) as well as newer members Sean Eden (Luna) and Claudia Chopek (Bright Eyes, Dexys). Doug Gillard from Guided by Voices also contributed guitar to the track.

On the flip side: “I Hope We’re Not Too Late,” was recorded during the same sessions - written by Derby, March, Chopek, and Eden, demonstrating the Dambuilders’ career-long flair for collaboration and improvisation, bringing the voices of all new and original Dambuilders to the fore. March brought the initial sketch of the song to the band, who turned it into an epic, future classic about navigating the past and its connection to the present and future. In the plaintive rideout, the band asks: “Can we be that sure of where the road is supposed to go?/Can we disconnect the past? We’ve walked this path before. The song features backing vocals by Renée LoBue (Elk City).

Catch The Dambuilders live on April 24th at NYC’s Mercury Lounge and April 25th at Myrtle in East Providence, RI.
