I'm glad I was able to be part of the process. Assisting with, facilitating, and developing professional learning spaces for educators was never something I imagined myself doing. I love working directly with young people, and that has always been at the heart of my work.
But more and more, I realize that it is all part of a larger educational ecosystem-one that requires comprehensive care, intentional thought, and thoughtful ex*****on. Supporting students also means supporting the educators, families, and systems surrounding them. -Latoya Watts

Last night, we officially kicked off our NEA Big Read journey! 📚✨
Community partners and members of the WattsNatural Tutoring family came together for a fun evening. We networked. We connected. We shared pieces of our stories. We learned about one another’s journeys as Americans and exchanged experiences from the worlds of nonprofit, education, literacy, and community service. Those conversations highlighted the heart of this project: our experiences may be different, but there is tremendous power in creating spaces where we can listen, learn, reflect, and grow together.
And this is only the beginning.
Our NEA Big Read initiative centers Ernest J. Gaines’ A Lesson Before Dying and will use literature, storytelling, art, history, and conversation to bring people together across Rhode Island.
📖 Now we want YOU at the table.
Join us for our upcoming community reading group and book discussion of A Lesson Before Dying. Whether you are an educator, parent, student, community leader, avid reader—or someone who simply wants to be part of a meaningful conversation—there is a place for you.
Come read with us. Come bring your perspective. Come hear someone else’s.
Stay tuned for reading group dates and registration information!

🌿💛 A heartfelt thank you to the Tomaquag Museum for hosting such a meaningful learning experience for our students today.
Over the past month, our campers have been exploring vocabulary and concepts like community, Indigenous, traditions, and culture. Today, those words came to life.
Students learned through storytelling, experienced the tradition of reciprocity by sharing stories with one another, and even played the traditional Indigenous game Hubbub. It was an engaging, hands-on experience that deepened their understanding while honoring the rich history and traditions of Indigenous Narragansett community.
Thank you for helping our students see that learning is expansive and that experiences like these create meaningful connections.

📚✨ Friday learning today looked a little different...
Flexible, fun, and engaging—while still remaining structured, prescriptive, diagnostic, and multisensory.
One of the things I love most about Orton-Gillingham is that it doesn't require students to learn in only one way. Learning can be kinesthetic. It can involve movement, games, and hands-on activities—all while targeting the specific skills students need to become successful readers.
When instruction is responsive to students and grounded in evidence-based practices, learning sticks.

Behind the scenes, there has been a lot of planning, paperwork, dreaming, and intentional work taking place to establish WattsNatural Tutoring in Trinidad & Tobago. 🇹🇹📚
What started as a vision rooted in literacy, opportunity, and community continues to grow beyond borders. We are excited about the connections being built, the possibilities ahead, and the impact this work can have on learners, families, and educators.
There is still much work to do, but we are looking forward to the journey ahead and all that is to come. One step at a time, we continue building toward a world where literacy is accessible to all.
If you'd like to get involved, leave us a comment or send us a DM.

🌿💚 Mental Health Awareness Month 💚🌿
This month, we’re reminding our community that mental wellness matters—at every age.
From getting enough sleep and fresh air, to talking with someone you trust and taking breaks when needed, small steps can make a big difference.
The reality is:
• 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year
• 50% begins by age 14
• Anxiety is one of the most common challenges
At WattsNatural Tutoring, we believe supporting the whole learner means caring for both mind and heart. Creating spaces where students feel safe, seen, and supported is just as important as academic growth.
Let’s continue to check in, speak up, and show up for one another.

✈️✨ A Week of Firsts! ✨✈️
This week was full of new experiences for many of our campers. They got to see a different side of airports—not the typical commercial hustle, but a closer look at how aviation really works.
During our tour of North Central State Airport and local flight school, curiosity took flight. From small aircraft to learning how pilots train, our students were in awe—asking questions, making connections, and imagining themselves in these spaces. 💭🛩️
Experiences like this open minds and expand what students believe is possible.

📺🌦️ A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Weather and the News! 🌦️📺
Our students had an amazing opportunity to visit News and meet meteorologist .J. Del Santo! 🙌🏽
They got a behind-the-scenes look at how the news is created and learned all about weather, forecasting, and what it takes to be a meteorologist. 🌧️☀️ It was exciting to see science, communication, and real-world careers come to life right before their eyes.
Moments like these spark curiosity, expand possibilities, and show our students just how many paths are out there for them. 💛
Thank you to WPRI and T.J. Del Santo for such a memorable and inspiring experience!
