We put our hearts & souls into this rescue and the dogs we save. We do not have a shelter and rely solely on foster homes. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can pull from kill shelters and save.

Rescue is beautiful, but it is also heartbreaking in ways most people never see.

Adoption day is not the finish line. For a rescue dog, it is another enormous change. Even the most loving home is unfamiliar at first. New people, new sounds, new routines, and new expectations can be overwhelming.

A dog may pace, hide, cling, have an accident, bark, grumble, guard a toy, or simply need space. These moments do not automatically mean the dog is aggressive, the placement is failing, or the home is wrong. Often, they mean the dog is communicating, adjusting, and trying to understand whether this new place is truly safe.

Transition requires time, patience, consistency, thoughtful management, and open communication. A few days are not enough to understand a dog who may have spent months, or even years, living through uncertainty.

When a placement ends before a dog has the opportunity to exhale, the heartbreak belongs not only to the dog. Rescuers do not stop loving them when the adoption papers are signed. We worry, wait for updates, keep our phones close, and remain ready to drive through any storm to bring them home because our promise does not end when they leave our care.

Rescue is a shared responsibility. Rescues must be honest, supportive, and available. Adopters must ask questions, follow guidance, slow things down when needed, and give the dog a fair opportunity to settle. Love is essential, but love also looks like patience, structure, understanding, and asking for help before fear becomes a final decision.

Please remember that “forever” includes the difficult days, the uncertain moments, and the time it takes to build trust. Give them time. Give them grace. Let them learn that they are finally safe.

Rescue dogs have already endured enough change. Together, we must do everything possible to make their next home their last🐾❤️🐾

If that's you, apply for me today! ❤

Please. Don’t scroll past Princess. Her story deserves to be heard. 💔

Some dogs spend a few weeks in rescue.

Some spend a few months.

Princess has spent years.

Princess first came to BARC many years ago. Eventually, she was adopted by a wonderful man who loved her and gave her the home she deserved. But then life changed. Her owner became seriously ill and, heartbreakingly, had no choice but to surrender Princess back to BARC.

She came back to rescue.

And she waited.

For THREE YEARS, Princess has been waiting in a foster home for someone to choose her.

Three years of watching other dogs find their families.

Three years of wondering when it would finally be her turn.

Then, in July, we thought her story was finally changing. ❤️

Princess was adopted by a wonderful woman who was ready to give her the beautiful life she had waited so long for.

And then, completely unexpectedly, something happened in her adopter’s life that made moving forward impossible.

Princess lost her home again.

She didn’t do anything wrong.

She wasn’t returned because she was a bad dog.

Life simply dealt her another heartbreak.

And now, the foster home that has loved and cared for Princess has recently moved and can no longer continue to foster.

So here we are.

After spending the majority of her in rescue, Princess needs us again.

And honestly?

We are running out of places for her to go.

She has waited long enough.

She deserves to wake up and know:
This is my home.
These are my people.
…

👑 Meet Princess.

Princess is estimated to be around 7 years old. She is spayed, fully up to date on vaccines, and just had a dental and full standard veterinary workup, including bloodwork.

A few months ago, Princess was diagnosed with diabetes…

And she is DOING GREAT. She is doing beautifully on her insulin and diet, and her diabetes is well managed.

Princess can live with another dog, and she currently does. However, because of everything she has been through, introductions need to be extremely slow, careful, and appropriate. She would likely be happiest as an only pet or with one laid back male dog.

She is:
✔️Crate trained
✔️E-collar trained
✔️Great on a prong
✔️Looking for an experienced owner
✔️Best suited for someone who owns their home

We are urgently looking for a foster OR an adopter.

Her current foster can no longer keep her.

We have nowhere for Princess to go.

Please, someone step up for this girl.

She has already lost her home once because her person became ill. She waited three years. She finally thought she had found her forever family… and then lost that too.

How many more times should Princess have to start over?

She is still waiting.

Still hoping.

Still deserving of the one thing every dog should have:

A home where she is wanted.
A person who chooses her.
A family who stays.

And maybe that person is you.

❤️ There is NO adoption fee for Princess.

If you can foster her, BARC covers all foster expenses.

🙏 If you cannot take Princess yourself, PLEASE SHARE HER.
Her person could be sitting on your friends list right now. We just need to help them find each other.

On Saturday, we shared Princess’ story. Her post has been shared 512 times and received 53 comments.

But not one application has come in. And Princess has nowhere to go.

BARC CT is a foster based rescue. That means when our foster homes are full, we literally have nowhere to place dogs who need us. Every single one of our current fosters is full.

Princess is around 7 years old, spayed, fully vetted, recently had a dental and full bloodwork, and is doing beautifully managing her diabetes with insulin and diet.

She is crate trained, e-collar trained, great on a prong, and looking for an experienced owner. She can live with another dog with very slow, careful introductions, but she may be happiest as an only pet or with a laid back male.

Her current foster can no longer keep her. We desperately need someone to step up before she has nowhere to go.

Princess has already lost her home once when her person became ill. She waited three years before finding a family… only to lose that home too due to absolutely no fault of hers.

How many times should this girl have to start over?

Please. If you can foster Princess, apply today. BARC covers all foster expenses.

And if you truly cannot foster, please share this post. 512 shares got her story out there. Now we need just one person to say, “I’ll take her” and actually fill out the application, not just leave a false comment on the post. 💔
