a shout out to one of MDB's finest, Matt Stires. Matt and I have been working together for the past 10 years. I think it's safe to say the student has surpassed the teacher. I'm blessed to be able to work with such an extraordinary fella : )

Last day for our summer apprentice, Jimmy...Roofing is now installed on a small timber frame initially built around 1820. the building was in need of many repairs. all of which was done with recycled materials or wood milled from trees on the job site. It's great for my team to teach the next generation of carpenters as my mentors did for us

current Project Catskills NY. Originally this building (64' x 72') was the farmer's Dancehall, no joke. it was called "the big red barn", even though he only had painted one side red... after falling into major disrepair we have completely transformed it into a functional building again. We are adding a blanket of insulation around the entire structure, including 14" of roof insulation with a complete thermal break and vent roof assembly to create large 2' overhangs. the current hope is to possibly have an NYE dance party...TBD if the windows arrive in time ; (

Old fence boards saved from an unsavory future, the landfill. The material is old growth redwood. One of the most amazing wood species the earth has to offer.

Locally salvaged, bleacher board bookshelf.
The material was found heading into a dumpster.
We grabbed as much as we could...
Here we created a design that kept the boards in their original condition and then added a black powder coated aluminum face frame to add a nice accent of color.

Winter time Catskill mountain building ... working on the wagon house restoration.

The floorboards came out of the Beaverkill covered bridge in the Catskills and are being repurposed in a wagon house.
The pieces here are nearly all 20’ long 3” thick 12” wide!!!
Very very heavy!

On a recent trip to West Marin, CA in the town of Pt. Reyes, I came upon the preparations for a Parachute Music Festival. A cool local builder spent some serious time building this super party zone. I love it....
This picture shows the installation just a few day prior to the event, which I wasn't able to attend. I'm sure it was fun
