Pieceful Design
Welcome to Pieceful Design! Jennifer is currently the most over-educated stay-at-home mom in Arizona. Her drug of choice was fabric.
Although originally gainfully employed, a series of cross-country moves in the last decade convinced her to abandon that Ivy League education and focus on her children. But, alas, with all that free time, Jennifer quickly descended into addiction. Quilting was her gateway drug, and she joyfully hand-quilted several quilts for friends and family. Sadly, though, she discovered that working with just
Here’s the reveal of the blue and yellow bowl I’ve been working on the last few weeks. And for those who get frisieren I only show a little bit of the process at a time, this is the complete process. Enjoy!
Most of the time I have the necessary patience. Other times I end up screaming and cursing (I’m also quite creative in my cursing. It’s another habit I’m quite good at). Nonetheless, I do seem to have quite a bit of perseverance.
If you’ve been waiting to see what color comes next for this bowl— watch to the end and you’ll get your answer! I love the magic of a good Ombre-striped fabric. It really adds an impact to a piece that would be less effective if you just switched fabrics.
If you make art, you’re an artist. If you create something, you are creative. Enjoy the process…even if the product isn’t quite what you imagined. The process is just as essential as the product.
Just a little gentle sewing zen to put you in a creative mood as we head towards the weekend. The world is still in an uproar— though it seems like the new normal, it’s not good for our mental health. Try to make some time to take a break from screens and media and make something with your hands. You’ll feel better, I promise.
Call out AI. Absolutely. But do not throw artists under the bus along the way. And don’t be mean about it. It’s absolutely cruel to tell someone they’re “not. It out to be an artist.”
After all, I’m just posting my little sewing videos to help folks learn the process, get a little zen from watching, and maybe make a little cash from video monetization (because, hey, people aren’t buying much they don’t actually need these days).
Yes, we’re still on the road. I’m still English Paper Piecing. And Kaia is still napping and collecting pets from people all over the country. If you happen to see her in real life, please pet her. She pouts when strangers don’t give her attention.
Have I mentioned how much I love the chrome on this machine? I mean, Pfaff really got it right in the ‘50s, didn’t they? Oh, and this is a gorgeous fabric, too— which certainly helps!
Still driving. Still piecing. Kaia is still sick of the humidity. Little break in a hotel tonight should get her recharged for the final couple of days of the trip.
