Grand Prize Massey Ferguson® tractor arrives at PFD

Congratulations on being selected and winning the 2025 Sowing Good Deeds TM contest. This was a banner year as we had the most entrants ever. The submission was top notch and arguably the best we have ever received.” With those words, Matt
LeCroy, North America Marketing Manager for Massey Ferguson, notified the Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc. team that they had won a 4700 series tractor in December of 2025. During the 139 th World’s Oldest Rodeo on Friday, July 3, 2026, representatives serving Massey Ferguson presented the tractor to the Prescott team during an award ceremony in the main arena. Jim Dewey Brown, General Manager of Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc, stated," We're honored to receive this recognition. Our volunteers work year-round to give back to the community that supports us. This tractor will help us maintain our facilities and continue supporting local programs long after the last bull has bucked."

The Prescott team was also recognized for how its impact reaches far beyond rodeo week during the 2025 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Awards Banquet in Las Vegas. Prescott’s winning nomination described how the rodeo partnered with and supported multiple local organizations, providing assistance to youth programs, veterans, schools, museums, health care organizations, food banks, and many other groups across the Prescott area.

Rodeo Grounds Manager Mike Alderete has big plans for it. The new tractor will support year-round operations to keep the Prescott arena groomed and safe for the many rodeo athletes and livestock who compete there. Alderete, who also manages arenas for other rodeos, has been a recipient of the prestigious Justin Best Footing Award for outstanding arena maintenance multiple times. Massey Ferguson is a major global brand of agricultural machinery owned by ACGO Corporation and holds a nation-wide competition to recognize rodeo committees that exemplify service, leadership, and commitment to their communities. The Prescott Frontier Days team is grateful for the opportunity to be recognized for their good deeds.

Thanks to the enthusiastic support of our Prescott community, the Yavapai County Junior Rodeo Association (YCJRA) will return to the Prescott Rodeo Grounds for two rodeos:
Aug. 1 – 2 and Aug. 29 – 30.
In 2024 and 2025, the Prescott YCJRA rodeos were the largest participated rodeos by contestants and were equally popular with attendees. With a growing membership of 200 contestants so far in 2026, we anticipate the Prescott YCJRA rodeos to be bigger and better than ever!

Come to the Prescott Rodeo Grounds and cheer on the youth of the YCJRA as they compete in two free rodeos! Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc., a long-time, enthusiastic sponsor, will host the event which starts at 7:30 am at both events.

Rodeo contestants range in age from 3 -18 years old and will compete in the following events: peewee dummy roping, pole bending, barrel racing, peewee flag race, goat tying, breakaway roping, steer stopping, ribbon roping, team roping, boys’ calf roping, chute do***ng, and steer riding.
Prescott Frontier Days General Manager Jim Dewey Brown, a former student athlete and long-time youth rodeo coach, is a strong supporter of youth rodeo programs and fully supports the YCJRA. Having been a bronc rider in high school, Jim said, “this is the perfect place for kids to get a taste of rodeo,” and it’s also a “gateway for future World’s Oldest Rodeo® contestants.”

The Yavapai County Junior Rodeo mission is to provide young cowboys and cowgirls with local and affordable rodeo opportunities while promoting sportsmanship and keeping the western heritage alive in Arizona. YCJRA aims to promote a closer relationship among parents and their children and other people interested in rodeo.
YCJRA President Travis Lyons and Association State Secretary Kelcy Lyons tell us, “We are so grateful for the PFD board and their sponsorship to support our shared mission of youth rodeo for our local Yavapai cowboys and cowgirls! We would like to also thank the Prescott community for their love and support of rodeo.”

Rodeo is pay to play, while most sports are play to pay. If rodeo contestants are injured, they can’t pay to enter their events, and there is no insurance in rodeo. The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF) provides a hand up, not a handout to help these injured athletes. Thanks to your generosity, those rodeo contestants who are injured are cared for through your donations to the JCCF, collected at events like the annual Whiskey, Women, & Wine event, which is now in its 4 th year. Not only does the event sell out quickly, but with Jody Martinelli and her small volunteer crew at the helm, the amount donated has increased significantly each year. In 2026, the amount raised was $40,000 by the generous women of Prescott!

From the JCCF: The fund source was formed in 1989 when the Justin Boot Company partnered with the PRCA to establish the fund. The premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries. The fund fills the financial hard when a severe injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport of rodeo.
The Justin Boot Company generously underwrites all administrative costs associated with managing the fund. Unique among today’s numerous charitable organizations, JCCF stands above the rest by dedicating 100% of all contributions received for
disbursement to eligible applicants. JCCF has assisted more than 1500 injured rodeo athletes and their families with more than $10 million in assistance since its inception.
Learn more about our fund and our fundraising at www.justincowboycrisisfund.org
Attendees were treated with a “meet and greet” with pro-rodeo star athletes, wine tasting, live and silent auctions, appetizers, and goodie bags. Jody and her crew want to thank those individuals who so generously offered their time and donations, as well as the local businesses who provided beautiful gifts for the auctions. Jody also extends a“special thank you to the committee and Dianne Cartee and Suzy Davidson for helping me for months before the event.”
