Rocket Development Lab
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's state-of-the-art undergraduate rocket club in Prescott, AZ! We learn from each other and teach each other.
The Rocket Development Lab is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's state-of-the-art undergraduate rocket club in Prescott, Arizona, where we design, build, test, and fly all things rocket related. We work with hobby rockets, solid rocket motors, rocket engines, rocket test facilities, flight vehicles, and liquid propellant-fueled rockets. The RDL has created a strong hands-on learning environmen

Why wait for Monday? During a productive weekend, our mix personnel made 45 lbs of Turbo White propellant and four full-sized motors! IREC better watch out for us, we're coming for that trophy 🏆

Deneb 2 fired away this month! The rocket executed a successful 10 second static fire, carrying itself one step closer to the launchpad.
After a hole burnt through the throat of the thrust chamber, the team made their way back to the lab, ready to make amends. After some well-planned design changes, the rocket was vertical again, ready for another test. This team does NOT give up- and their hard work pays off!

Last weekend, the Hobby Rocketry Club took an exciting trip to Aguila for a launch with Tripoli Phoenix! 🚀 Members reached new heights, completing level 1 and level 2 certifications, testing advanced electronic systems, and even encountering some unexpected mishaps along the way. Every launch was a new learning experience, and we can’t wait to keep pushing the boundaries of flight.
This last weekend, Deneb 2 performed a static fire! They suffered a burn through at T+3.5s and are working to solve the problem. Design changes have been made to both chamber and engine to prevent a failure like these in the future! We are getting so close to launch that we can almost smell the exhaust!!

Introducing the Tyche Engine! This project has a goal of creating an engine to fill the gap in the thrust output of current projects on campus, which is approximately 250 lbf to 1400 lbf. They also are looking to expand the capabilities of the RDL and present various leadership opportunities, specifically for underclassmen. They did a great job on their Critical Design Review(CDR) and we’re looking forward to see what the Tyche team has in store!

The Rocket Development Lab has been at it again! Introducing our first update on the RDL’s newest flagship flight vehicle, Deneb 2: Electric Boogaloo (D2EB, for short)!
D2EB is an even more optimized flight vehicle than its predecessor Deneb. Research and Development for the flight vehicle started in Fall 2023 and hardware started getting built during Spring 2024.
Currently, the D2EB team has been on a testing spree with 5 hot fires in the matter of weeks during the Fall 2024 semester! Fun fact, the engine we have on this flight vehicle has produced 1700lbf of thrust, which is the most ever generated by a liquid engine on campus!
Flight is coming up soon and stay updated by following us on Instagram and YouTube for updates!
