The current library was constructed in 2001 and the building was dedicated on November 3, 2001. The Library is a department of the Powhatan County government.

The Powhatan County Public Library was first organized by volunteers to serve the residents of Powhatan on April 13, 1975 and was officially recognized as the County’s Library by the Powhatan Board of Supervisors on May 9, 1988. It is locally funded through a revenue appropriation made by the Board of Supervisors of Powhatan County, Virginia. The Library also receives state aid funding from the Library of Virginia. The purpose of the library is to acquire, organize, provide access and offer guidance to a broad range of information, materials, and services. Primarily, this mission is to encourage their use to help fulfill the intellectual, educational, social, cultural, community, and recreational needs of all people in the County.

The Virginia Master Naturalists is helping the Virginia Department of Forestry to collect your acorns and nuts. You can drop them off at the Library in the 2 big bins in the front of the building.
What to look for:
Look for whole, uncracked acorns without tiny acorn weevil holes. Acorn caps are not needed. Use field guides and state information guide to identify the tree. Separate acorns and nuts by species (type of tree). Place each different species in a separate paper or burlap bags or cardboard boxes (no plastic bags).
