We recently celebrated the launch of the Community Impact Fund, a student-led philanthropic initiative that gives Red Foxes hands-on experience raising funds and directing support to nonprofit organizations throughout the Hudson Valley! ❤️🤝
At the heart of the Fund is an experiential learning model that asks students to make real decisions with real community impact. Through two School of Management courses, students take the lead on researching local needs, evaluating nonprofit organizations, and developing criteria for giving, ultimately helping determine how they can make a difference.
The initiative is designed not only to deepen students’ understanding of nonprofit leadership and philanthropy, but also to help them consider what it means to be active members of the communities they are part of.

As a live retail laboratory, MPorium allows students across all class levels and areas of study to delve into the nuances required for running and maintaining a fashion enterprise, including the challenges and responsibilities of operating a fully functional retail store and e-commerce website!
Each semester, their Steel Plant storefront is completely transformed into a new theme, and on Tuesday, Sept. 29, we celebrated the grand (re)opening of Frankie’s Diner at MPorium, an homage to diner culture of the Northeast.
Aspiring journalist Cassandra Mirabella ‘30 recounts the experience of participating in this year’s Common Read and hearing directly from the author, — thank you to Cassandra for documenting the journey and producing this video about Marist’s First Year Seminar program.
ABOUT THE COMMON READ: The 2026-2027 Common Read is Nora Krug’s Diaries of War: Two Visual Accounts from Ukraine and Russia, published in 2023. Described by the publisher as “powerful graphic journalism,” this book explores, through text and illustrations, the contrasting life experiences of a Ukrainian journalist and an anti-war Russian artist during the first year of the on-going Ukrainian-Russian War. The Common Read Committee, composed of faculty, staff, administration, and students, chose the timely graphic narrative, focused on a contemporary issue that students are aware of and care about, in hopes it would become an impactful shared academic experience for incoming students and generate important discussion about global conflict for students, faculty, and staff alike.
