Has it been far too long since you’ve had a Hugo’s sourdough boule? Of course it has! Even though there is yet to be a date on the horizon where we feel confident saying we’ll resume service at Hugo’s, we still have plenty to be grateful for. For one thing, how many people have embraced Big Tree Grocery — . And for another, that our sourdough will be gracing Thanksgiving tables from Boston to Biddeford to Portland.
Our pastry team will be offering a number of pies and breads for Thanksgiving, in addition to the menu of starters, sides, and pantry staples that Big Tree Grocery has put together. Head over to bigtreefoods.com (link in bio) to take a look at the full selection and to place an order by 11/20. The sourdough batards pictured are on there!

One of the things that makes Hugo’s so special is that we make absolutely everything ourselves. From the bread to the butter to the ice cream and duck stock our team’s care and attention was poured into every last ingredient. Our meat, poultry and fish are handpicked from the best purveyors we can find, bought whole, butchered in house and often shared between ourselves, and so that nothing goes to waste.
Though our restaurant is closed, you can still enjoy some what makes Hugo’s special through Big Tree Grocery () a once a week grocery pickup offering meal kits, chef’s pantry items, pastries, and our favorite cuts of meat. You’ll even recognize a few of Hugo’s at Home’s biggest hits.
Big Tree Grocery accepts orders from Friday at noon to Tuesday at noon, with all pickups scheduled for Fridays in Biddeford at the Pepperell Mill, or in Portland, right here at Hugo’s.
All the details and the link to order can be found at bigtreefoods.com! (Link in bio) And will be posting all the latest updates!

Many thanks to everyone who tried Hugo’s at Home over these last few weeks, and to everyone who has shown their support for Hugo’s since we closed in March. We have made the difficult decision not to reopen this summer. We love creating an intimate dining experience for guests in a restaurant that allows them to share space with our chefs, but we cannot yet envision a time when it will feel safe for us to do that again.
This is not the end of Hugo’s. We hope to open our doors to you again this fall. In the meantime, we wish you all the best for the summer ahead.
Black Lives Matter. We have to put an end to the racial inequities that continue to plague our country and endanger the lives of people of color. We support the peaceful protestors demanding change, and have been grateful that the protests have taken place right outside our doors, as it has been an important reminder that there is work to do right here at Hugo’s. We stand in solidarity but know that is just the first step. We are taking time to reflect on how we can help enact change from within our business and beyond, and along with our sister restaurants at Big Tree Hospitality, plan to make supporting the black community a focus of our philanthropy moving forward.

Our kitchen may be closed but our baker is still baking (safely at home) and we have a feeling those sourdough boules are going to taste better than ever when we can open our doors again.
Many thanks to everyone who has purchased digital gift certificates in April! We’re over halfway to our goal of donating 300 gift cards to healthcare workers on the frontlines, and we have another ten days to go! If you haven’t heard, we are matching all digital gift card purchases with donated gift cards to healthcare workers at Maine Med, Beth Israel Hospital, and Boston Healthcare for the Homeless as a token of our appreciation for all their hard work right now.
We’ve been so grateful for the community helping us to give back in this way, and will continue to add 20% to the balances of all $50 - $249 gift card purchases, and 25% on top of all gift cards purchased for $250+.

COVID-19 has left all of us at Big Tree wondering, how can we be of use, whom can we serve? Over the past few weeks we’ve realized that the people who need us most right now are the healthcare workers on the frontlines. They need us to stay home to flatten the curve, and they need our support in any way we can give it.
We usually show love and appreciation by cooking for people, so it has taken some long conversations to figure out how we can continue to keep our staff safe at home and show our deep gratitude for the those that are working around the clock, risking their own health and safety to protect the rest of us. The answer — from now until the end of April, we will match every dollar of gift card purchases with donated gift cards to healthcare workers at Maine Med in Portland, Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, and Boston Healthcare for the Homeless. Our hope is to show this incredible group of people that we see them, we appreciate them, and we all look forward to the day when they can rest and be treated to a good meal.
On top of matching every dollar you spend on gift cards, we want to continue to thank YOU, all of the people who have supported us through these trying times (and who still read these long posts!) We will continue to add 20% on top of the value of all $50 - $249 gift card purchases, and 25% to all gift card purchases of $250+.
We are all in this together, and we look forward to joining forces with you to show the men and women on the frontline how grateful we are for them.

We can’t wait to get back in the kitchen. We can’t wait to see you all back in the restaurant. And we Really can’t wait for the days of gathering, sharing meals, and enjoying each other’s company (in the same space!) to be back.
For everyone who has reached out to ask how you can support Hugo’s during this closure - thank you. Buying digital gift certificates is the best way to help, and to show our gratitude, starting now we’ll be adding 20% to the value of all $50 - $249 gift card purchases, and 25% to the value of all $250+ gift card purchases.
We will be making the additions to your balance after you purchase, so please allow a few hours for the extra 20% or 25% to be reflected on your digits gift card. We will also be sure to send you a follow up confirmation email once we’ve processed the adjustment. You can find the link to buy digital gift cards in our bio! Thank you for your support. We can’t wait to see you back at .

At Big Tree Hospitality it has always been our goal to create community within our restaurants, and offer the best food and hospitality we know how. We never expected there to come a day when the most responsible way for us to serve our community and protect our staff would be to close our doors, but none of us have ever seen days like this before.
At 8 PM tonight 3/16 we will close , , , and for in-restaurant dining. We plan to continue to offer takeout and delivery at and between 12 PM and 7:30 PM, as long as it seems safe and possible to do so.
We will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation around the clock and will communicate any further changes to our businesses as they come up. In the meantime, we hope to have the opportunity to continue feeding you and offering whatever support we can through our takeout and delivery options.
We are all in this together. Stay safe. Stay healthy. We look forward to seeing you back in the restaurants again soon.

We feel best when we’re cooking and serving great food to good people, so as of now, that’s exactly what we plan to keep on doing. Much like the rest of our restaurant industry friends and family we are watching the news closely. Sanitization continues to be a top priority, as does the health of our staff and community. If eating well makes you happy, if you need a welcoming place to let a good meal take your mind off these crazy times, or if you’ve been planning to dine with us, we’ll be here. Dinner starts at 5:30. We’re looking forward to seeing you, whether it’s tonight or for an evening in the future. Stay healthy, friends.
