Snuck in to the job as the GC is putting down floor protection. This polished concrete floor was one of many that i have done recently where i broadcast oyster shell when the flatwork team is placing the concrete. The iridescence of oyster shell reflects light differently depending upon the angle. The effect is subtle, and very organic, but interesting as it changes as you move throughout the space.

In process of polishing the 4000 sq ft floor for this post and beam barn. It is interesting to prepare a floor that will see both tractors and Porsches, potting soil and ci**rs, water and whiskey. We had a great experience with the folks from Maine Post & Beam who did the beautiful barn.

I just broadcast 150lbs. of oyster shell into this floor for a pool cabana in South Freeport, Maine. That was in early November. We begin the grind and polish of this concretre floor shortly now that the building has been erected. We worked with Richer Concrete with this slab placement.

Recently completed this heavy kitchen island....on an island! We loaded everything onto the Vinalhaven ferry on a cold December morning. In this case it was about 1500lbs of precast polished concrete pieces made with aggregate from the Vinalhaven quarry. the pieces included a small sideboard, a deep sink box, and the large island bar with a drainboard. All the appliances, rangetop, downdraft vent were cast such to be flush with the polished concrete surface. My team, as well as some great site based hands managed to move and lift everything into place for a perfect fit. The boat ride home is a reminder that we work in a beautiful place.

An exciting precast polished concrete bar and entry desk that we made in our Portland, Maine shop, and shipped down to NYC for installation in Midtown Manhattan for a famous women's clothing designer HQ. Complicating the install was a fore protected column on the mitered corner of the two long runs. I had previously flown down to template this on mylar. The entry counter cabinetry was made by Exactitude in their Maine shop. We shipped their parts down with our precast and assembled their cabinetry on site.....

Our polished concrete project in the Abaco's in the Bahamas for an excellent client. We actually precast and shipped some of the pieces for this project in our shop, and crated them , and our tools, for delivery to the Key. We also formed and poured the large kitchen slab in place using a combination of local material and our admixtures. A huge debt of gratitude top our local team led by Dwight Cox, without which this would have been only a dream. Matt Obie and i traveled down, and because it was covid, my son also came along. My son did his homework,....and something called Fortnite? from a laptop as school days where 50% from home. Another suffering jobsite to have to be on in February. Great clients, great working group, and plenty of Haitian grilled fish

An ancient project from 2004? maybe 2005... The Kitchen was poured in place on top of "one of a kind" straight grain douglas fir cabinets. I had to form, pour, grind and polish wet on top of these cabinets... We had garden hoses running into the kitchen from outside. i had the whole thing tented and wrapped in plastic. I ground and polished the concrete with two brave henchman from the robotics team that i coached for years. I ran the edge machine, Dan ran the hand held planetary machine, and Matt......crawled on the floor all day with a shop vac removing the water and slurry. I was younger... Matt and Dan went on to (smartly) work in office jobs.
