Street Racer…how I created something from a thrift shop frame

People ask me if I’m superstitious so sometimes I show them my wallet that my mother gave me when I graduated from high school in 1971 and it was in my back pocket when I was arrested in Russia for protesting in Moscow, it was in my pocket when I fished commercially for salmon in Alaska it was in my pocket when I fell off a ladder and landed in a shrub it was in my pocket when I held my mother’s hand and watched her take her last breath and it was in my pocket when I married Robin who did my laundry one time so it survived the washing machine and despite having purchased five new wallets this past year it’s still in my pocket so yes I’m superstitious.

Fossil Hunter…Intergalactic anthropologists surmise that the planet had been struck by an asteroid burying large portions in ash which preserved them for millions of years until wind erosion revealed a perfect fossil representation of this ancient civilization. This painting is for the upcoming show titled Is It Still Life curated by KRK Ryden

I have a project going that involves several components this gilded painting on panel is one of thirteen with the vibe being futuristic icon pieces with Gustav Klimt inspiration which I’m working on in spare moments between show pieces so I’m not sure how long it will take to manifest in completed form

Music Millennium…I finished this a few minutes ago and I’m hanging the show tonight for tomorrow’s opening. Music Millennium is part of the Briar Patch and the oldest record store in the Pacific Northwest and ranked the 9th best record store in America. It was founded in 1969 by Don McLeod and purchased by Terry Currier after Don’s death in 1977. Terry coined the saying “Keep Portland Weird” however after 30 years he wants to retire and is trying to sell the store to someone who will keep it going because he has many offers to buy this prime property in the Briar Patch and I might add that my show Briar Patch opens tomorrow
