Check out this nice write-up and um, interesting video of the Dunk Me Silly dunk tank that Rip City Digital sponsored at The Oak St Block Party during Jazzfest. We raised over $700 for the Oak St Community Foundation. Can't wait to do it again next year!

Always nice to see the preservation of sound get some recognition in mainstream media. I wonder if the Library of Congress hires independent contractors? ;)

Why Vinyl Is the Only Worthwhile Way to Own Music On any given Tuesday in the 90s, I would hustle to the record store after school to gawk at the new releases. Occasionally, I would take a CD home, greedily tear it open, pop it into my boombox, and listen while I pretended to do my homework. This wonderful experience has no value any more. It's obs...

Portland makes the short list of the next cities Google is considering for Google Fiber network installations. This would mean internet speeds up to 100 times faster than the standard broadband currently available in the area. Bring it on!
Google Fiber As the web has gotten faster, it has also gotten more useful — activities like streaming movies, storing files online, video chatting and more were all enabled by broadband connections over a decade ago, and the next chapter of the web will run on even faster speeds.

Up next on our out of print vinyl rips is the 1978 album "Chick, Donald, Walter & Woodrow" from The Woody Herman Band. This one is a bit of a curiosity to say the least. Side One "Suite For A Hot Band" is a Chick Corea composition in three movements. Corea had not written for a big band in a number of years, but managed to put this together in a matter of days, demonstrating a versatility seen from few other composers during this time period. Side Two finds the Herman Band drawing from the vast Steely Dan catalog for their take on Green Earrings, Kid Charlemagne, I've Got The News, Aja and FM. I doubt Becker and Fagen had this in mind when penning these hits, but they actually hold up quite well arranged for a big band. Enjoy!

Dave Brubeck Was The Macklemore Of 1954 Sixty years ago, a jazzman found himself in much the same position as a rapper did on Sunday night.
2013 was a year of tough losses for the jazz world, one of which was L.A. drummer and band leader Chico Hamilton, who left us in November at the age of 92. Here is side one of the Chico Hamilton Trio's 1963 release "Meet Chico Hamilton". Ripped from the original vinyl release and edited with Adobe Audition, this album has never been re-released digitally. Enjoy!
