Will 2026 be the warmest year ever?

A super El Nino has developed and it is WAY more extreme than anything on record. El Nino typically peaks in November and it looks like this El Nino will break the all-time record within a week.

2026 is currently sitting at 2nd warmest year on record globally but this El Nino gives it a chance to push into the #1 spot by the end of December. That number 1 spot by the way- the long ago past of...2024.

I'm out of my summer weather hibernation. Once a Nor'easter appears on the models I come out of my den like a bear.

Looks like a wet and breezy weekend coming up- especially along the coast. The wind doesn't look too crazy, probably just some gusts to 35-40 MPH.

The rain should add up, but we need it because of the drought. 2-4" of rain is possible, once again heaviest along the coast.

Wiggles and timing will impact how much total rain we get and it could get a bit excessive if the low stalls too long. I'll keep an eye on it.

Some options as heating oil prices spike leading into winter.

Drought persists but there's ONE bright spot: This pattern is a pretty good setup for brilliant fall foliage.

We've had warm, sunny days and crisp, cool overnights. Also- although this isn't the common wisdom- I have found a "light" drought can actually make colors pop even more. It can jump the shark though, as is likely in the Midcoast, if the drought is too severe.

Overall, though, I think this is gonna be a banner year for colors.

Hey insect nerds- is this just a huge June bug? Or?

It’s between 1.5-2” and I don’t recall seeing one this big before.

Gonna run some mid to upper 90s pretty easily tomorrow.
