Such an honor to coach a breakout in the Oregon 2020 Women on Boards Session today! Some of the things I learned and heard today from the great panel that kicked us off:
“Find your sweet spot between assimilating into a board and retaining the unique perspective you bring.”
“Allyship is all of our work, and reciprocity is a responsibility”
“We don’t have a pipeline problem. We have a network problem. We need to reverse engineer it. We need to disrupt our own networks”
“Put yourself in the way.”
“The real value of 2020 may be that we are having authentic, vulnerable discussions at all levels of organizations”
“We are accountable for equity at every leadership level.”

Such good energy recording a new podcast episode with these two! Jesse and I shared many late nights working through film edits in the good old Nike days. And John has been a great voice in our work for The LC. Listen to the link in our bio to hear the full story. It’s a long one but worth the ride. Thanks guys! ♥️

We are broken-hearted.
We are grateful.
We are resolved anew.
Two years ago I wrote a piece called “Liberty Admires — RBG” and said this: “I am resolved anew to pursue this work of growing great women leaders that will help Ruth knit this sweater of change.”
May she rest in power and may we all work harder to save us, for all of us.
“In my life, what I find most satisfying is that I was a part of a movement that made life better, (and) not just for women.” — RBG

Leadership that LISTENS is all too rare today. One of our twelve learning modules, we have found LISTENING to be a profound entry point on the journey to Evolved Leadership — great leadership begins by listening.
Applications are now open for our upcoming LISTENING-focused Global Workshop. Learn to listen better through this synchronous, small-group leadership program — and in the process, earn stronger listenership for yourself.
Join the LC and other leaders from around the world starting next month for a virtual five-week leadership development series, meeting once a week for 2.5 hours in an inspiring and engaging format.
Space is limited. Full program info link in our bio!

Today we celebrate another great artist, Elizabeth Payton — “a contemporary American painter known for portraiture and largely credited with the re-evaluation and re-emergence of figuration in painting.”
Tomorrow we turn the page to August. This last month of Summer 2020 feels like a chance for a breath (let’s make it a deep one!) before we push into an uncertain Fall.
Wherever you are around the world, know that we miss you. And wish you health and many moments of joy mixed in with the important and hard work of change underway. Thank you for all you are doing.

Hello! Today I’m taking over the instagram account of from ...
And welp...I thought I would take a moment to just plain brag today. I just received an email that I have been accepted into the "Society for Neuroscience - Neuroscience Scholars Program" - which means I have just been recognized as a leading neuroscientist in the field...or should I say, on the planet!!!!!
Why not "humble brag" instead of just plain old brag? Because I have been told for nearly 20 years that I would never make it and become a neuroscientist. I have been put down and told that no one would ever be interested in my research because I dared to make the connection between neuroscience, mindfulness, and social justice. I have been made to feel that as a Black woman I need to "stay in my lane". All those years of painful rejection only made me strive harder!!!
Black women do not typically become Ph.D.s. Black women do not typically become scientists. Black women don't typically become doctors. Black women especially do not typically become neuroscientists - the gatekeepers have made that much clear - not because we are not deserving, but because the racist hatred formed against us and our intelligence has historically been so strong.
We have been told that our place is to be brutalized, in jail, or dead. We have been told that our hair is too kinky, or style is too loud, our anger has no place, and our communities do not matter.
Well I am here to say BLACK LIVES MATTER!!!! BLACK SCIENTISTS MATTER!!!!!! And I remain committed to the work of the "Science of Social Justice" framework which I have developed to help heal society from the dis-ease of othering and systemic oppression...
WATCH. US. RISE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Repost from and :
"When the world listens to women, it listens to white women. For far too long, Black women's voices have gone unheard, even though they've been using their voices loudly for centuries to enact change. Today more than ever, it is NECESSARY that we create a unifying action to center Black women's lives, stories, and calls to action. We need to listen to Black women."
Today, Black women will speak from the Instagram accounts of white women. We are thrilled to pass the mic here to Dr. Sará Yafah King, an incredible neuroscientist and medical anthropologist from 💫 Thank you for connecting us on that day in The LC studio that seems so long ago now, but just like yesterday too ♥️
The intention of this campaign is to magnify Black women and the important work that they're doing in order to catalyze the change that will only come when we truly hear each other's voices.

We started the Liberty Collective with a commitment to listen. And we’ve done that the world over. That work will never stop. We know deeply that we need to listen better to black voices.
Here are some voices that we’d like to amplify — who have been and will continue to be fundamental to our dedication to shifting leadership behavioral norms. Our equity commitment (link in bio) is a start. “We know clearly that in order to drive towards the foothold of intersectional progress that this world requires, we need to create intentional and equitable efforts that change the landscape of whom (and how!) we invest in as leaders.”
And... we need to take action NOW. As .cargle has shared, this is our work to do. “It requires empathy, education and action. Everything else is just performing.”
