Honestly, I can’t help it.
Wouldn’t try if I could.

I finally finished this little feather painting! I’ve been able to paint more lately.
But I’m trying to learn to evolve my process a bit towards a looser style.
I think it will help very much.
But it’s challenging because i LOVE the highly refined details and tiny fine lines of how I have done this for many years.
It might be a matter of “let go or don’t paint”. And I’ve tried the latter.
It’s nothing but a heartbreak.
This is part of a larger theme in my life of learning to release control in general.
I’m sure no one else can relate to that.
I am making progress though.
Carrying on.

I’ve been working on this the last few days. I don’t know what I was thinking to paint the Queen Angel Icon, Dolly Parton when I’m so out of practice. It can be challenging not to let a portrait veer into a caricature.
But I did my best. I think I was able to capture her beauty - especially her eyes - while challenging my perfectionist tendencies. And just letting it be.
She had an exquisite and unique nose and I didn’t quite get it.
But almost.
And it was lovely to spend so much time looking at her and pondering the sweet indelible power of heart that she taught humanity just by being herself. 💖💖💖
Also, I went to the Insectarium in Montreal and saw sooooooo many butterflies. It was the perfect week to do so.
I woke up this morning needing quiet more than usual.
So instead of sitting outside listening to news or a guided meditation, like usual. I just watched the trees in the silence of cicadas and neighborhood sounds.
I read six pages of poetry instead the usual two.
I can feel the sacred grief, love and reverence of millions of people who know what the world lost yesterday.
Gazing at the blue, blue sky and wondering how the sun can shine so bright when one of its beams has gone out.
I’m weary for all that’s broken and breaking and stolen and lost, everyday, for so long now.
And today I’m mad that it was her and not him or one of his most powerful minions.
But in the spirit of what Dolly would do I’m trying to focus on feeling so grateful for the gift we had in a soul like Dolly Parton’s - shining over all of us my entire life and probably yours, too.
She only got brighter as she got older.
Actually, it seems silly to say a light went out. Because truly I don’t think one like hers ever does.
She left us with all the best she had to give.
Humanity will continue to be warmed by her wisdom, grace, smile, humor, strength, and music.
The darkness cannot win when we have such true Light.
Linktree in my bio for all of these journals!
BTW, NOT BORING ACTUALLY.
But I'm just one person in this fight against the dissolution of humanity's attention span.

Not to be dramatic but…

A quick bedtime sketch.
When I was a little girl may favorite thing to draw was women’s faces or “pretty ladies”. They usually had huge eyelashes and lots of lipstick. I also loved to draw hands with long painted fingernails.
I was so obsessed with high heels and makeup and girly stuff that once when I was 3 I stole my grandmother’s hot pink lipstick and she chased me through the house. While I hid under the bed with her lipstick (in a gold tube no less - how was i supposed to resist that??), listening to her calling my name and looking for me, I very nearly tried eating it rather than have to give it back to her. Ok that’s enough about me. Good night!

💌I’ve loved painting Love Letters for 25 years.
💌This is the 1st or 2nd Love Letter I ever painted. I think it’s the 2nd.
💌But, anyway, my sister has it and I love that, too.
💌There are so many that have no documentation for posterity.
💌But here are also a few pics of some I’ve made in just the last 5 years.
💌PLUS more vintage paintings of mine that live at my sister’s house.

I did a little experiment with colored pencil. It was fun but painting is definitely my true love.
Indiana, goodbye. I leave pieces of my heart with all my people there. Always to return💖. A chaotic good time was had.

I'm still working on these little feathers.
I haven't been able to paint for a while. But yesterday was a good day. And today I didn't really pay for it.
I will never stop trying. Painting is more blissful than anything I've ever experienced. It's when I feel most at home in myself.
And more pics from Mom's House and Indy💖.
