🎶 🎺 JAZZ AS BLACK DANCE with 🎶 POP-UP class this SATURDAY January 14th from 2:45-4pm 🎶 🎷
With origins in traditional Black vernacular movements, the class will be situated at the convergence of dance aesthetics from African Americans and Europeans in the United States. This class will have a format that challenges the dancer's proprioception, rhythmicity, and physical endurance.
Built from the scholarship of Katherine Dunham, Brenda Dixon Gottschild, Thomas DeFrantz, Camille A. Brown, Alvin Ailey, Ron K. Brown, and many other Black dance scholars and performers, Jones's Jazz class will celebrate the legacy of the Black (neo-African) forms we all know and love, Jazz.
Come join us! ✨

One year ago today, we lost our dear friend and longtime company manager, Una Loughran. For nearly 20 years, Una was the rudder for the good ship BodyVox in the turbulent waters of arts management. We flourished under her leadership and vision, and to this day continue to benefit from her years of steady and faithful stewardship of BodyVox. Una was loved and respected by her constituents across the country. She had a broad coalition of partners and friends in every region of the U.S. and would connect with them annually at the various conventions that she would attend on behalf of BodyVox. We miss her dearly and are reminded of her daily when we arrive at the BodyVox Dance Center and enter through the Una Loughran Lobby. Thank you, Una.
