Wichita Lineman (Jimmy Webb 1968) is, for my money, one of the greatest songs ever written.
It doesn’t align with any of the most common song themes, yet it’s full of romanticism and the bittersweet pain of human existence.
Musically, it’s one of the strangest pop songs I’ve encountered. The form & harmony defy conventions, but it all goes down incredibly smoothly.
It’s no surprise that artists such as myself continue to be compelled to engage with it, despite the countless renditions already in existence. The song is immortal and timeless, and therefor is immune to being “done to death”.
As for our rendition,
The 5/8 interlude is primarily Garrett Baxter’s conception, his bassline being the foundation that we sculpted the rest of the parts around. The harmonic alterations are Jack Radsliff’s. Micah Hummel codified the rhythm scheme. I didn’t really do much other than gather the people, bring the song in, and play as beautifully as I’m able.

Releasing music in a thoughtful and intentional way takes a lot of time & effort! Staying regular with it can be a challenge. A few years ago, I promised myself that I would release something every year. So far I’ve kept my word. 1 EP & 1 single in 2025. Full album coming in 2026 I PROMISE.
