Our last Math Club talk involved the integration of chemistry and group theory, this week we bring you another magical mathematics combination: Music and Math!! Come this Thursday to listen to BOTH Ewan Kummel and Michael Wells talk about how to construct musical scales using Geogebra and about an algorithm used to study rhythm and scale selection. Like last time there will be Hotlips pizza to go with this talk. So please come join use this Thursday, Math 10th, at 2:15 pm in the Peter Stott Center room 122!

Do you like group theory? Do you like chemistry? Do you just like awesome math? Well this talk is for you! Come this Thursday, April 26th, to Math Club and listen to Annie Bergman talk about how students can reinvent the classifications of chemically important point groups. The talk will be this Thursday at 2pm at the Peter Scott Center room 122. There will be yummy pizza!

First Math Club talk of spring term is here everyone! Scott Lindstrom (an MS-Math graduate from PSU) will be visiting us from Australia and agreed to give a super exciting talk on the research he is working on. His talk is titled Phase Portraits of Hyperbolic Geometry and will be given Thursday, April 12th at 2pm in Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) 294. There will be Hotlips pizza to accompany this exciting talk! Don't miss out on the fun!

Come finish off the term with a wonderful talk by Matt Petersen titled Theorizing Mathematical Silences! You know all of those awkward silences mathematicians have with each other?? New year, new round of Math Club talks! Everyone is invited to come this Friday (11/3) to room NH 373 at 12 pm to listen to the wonderful Ben Wallek talk about the work he has done for his MS-MTCH 501 project. You will laugh, you will cry, you will wonder, all while enjoying some DELICIOUS Hot Lips pizza. Some come join us for a wonderful time!

It's time for our first Math Club talk of the term! It will be given by Annie Bergman and titled "Reinventing Rigid Motions: A student’s story of symmetry". Annie will be talking all about how a student worked on reinventing the definition of symmetry and symmetry equivalence! The talk will be Thursday April 20th at 4pm in NH 373, there will be pizza and wonderful company as per usual!

Pi day is this Tuesday, and we are happy to spread the word about festivities, even when they aren't our own, yay! SIAM is having a pi day celebration complete with ACTUAL PIE TO EAT, coffee, a talk by John Simon Caughman IV, and fun math trivia! See the attached flyer for more details.

Non-math club events coming up soon that you should know about:
Calculus, the Musical is coming to PSU tomorrow (3/6) from 10:00 to 11:00 in the SMSU ballroom (3rd floor). I will be there, it sounds amazing! (http://matheatre.com/)
Another one of the clubs in the department, SIAM, is hosting a pi day event (on 3/14, of course) from 3:30 to 5:00 in NH 373. I'm not sure what all they have in store, but it sounds like they will have trivia!
