Count it! Another big win for founding partner John Barhoum today in Portland Federal Court. In a ten minute unanimous defense verdict, the jury decided Columbia County was not negligent. Plaintiff alleged she was injured, requiring surgery, after she sat on a faulty chair at the Courthouse. She alleged that the city should have done more to prevent the incident. The jury disagreed. Congrats John!!

Defense verdict!! If the bag don't rip, you must acquit.
Partners John Barhoum and Jessica Lancaster received a complete defense verdict today for one of our retail clients in the Western District of Washington, Federal Court.
Plaintiff alleged our client put too many items in her bag, which she says broke. Plaintiff alleged she suffered permanent injuries to her hand and requested significant damages. The jury disagreed, returning a speedy verdict for the defense.
John and Jess are celebrating (below) with items that plaintiff purchased and were in the bag. Congrats!!!

Another excellent outcome obtained by partner Sarah Tuthill-Kveton.
In a King County, Washington motor vehicle case, plaintiff alleged that she had years of treatment related to the collision, required surgery, and demanded $100,000 at arbitration (held via Zoom). Our client admitted liability for the collision and the only remaining issue for the arbitrator to decide was the amount of damages plaintiff should be awarded. In arbitration, the arbitrator found that none of plaintiff’s medical treatment was related to the collision. The arbitrator awarded only $7,700 in noneconomic damages to the plaintiff.
