In case you haven’t heard the news yet, we’ve got an incredible collaboration happening with Movie Madness University, the educational arm of beloved Portland film institutions and .

This October, is hosting Oscar Micheaux: A Lesson in Asking for Forgiveness, Not Permission, a four-week film class co-taught by Kristina Mucker and M.J. Jackson. We’re honored to host a class that highlights the groundbreaking contributions of America’s first Black filmmaker.

Micheaux funded, wrote, and directed 44 feature films that centered Black storylines and perspectives in the early 20th century. The class will explore his work and influence through four films: Within Our Gates (1920), Body and Soul (1925), Symbol of the Unconquered (1920), and Murder in Harlem (1935).

We’re really honored to host the first formal community showcase for New Room Studios, bringing together 21 incredible Oregon artists for one eclectic night sampling some of the best of the local scene.

When we say the Abbey is for everyone, this is what we mean. There's a little bit of everything, with short live performances spanning hip hop, literature, theatre, soul, Taiko drumming, Ghanaian music, psychedelic Latin American pop, short films, visual art, and arts organizations doing genuinely good work in our community.

Come early and experience the DJ set, visual art gallery, book and CD sales, small bites from AKADI PDX, and pizza from Atlas Pizza before the showcase kicks off.

Tonight we welcome NoPo Big Band back to the Abbey stage with open arms.

If you missed the show last year, you need to be here tonight. NoPo Big Band is made up of a whopping 17 musicians that have spent the last 15 years playing some raucously fun and seriously ambitious big band music around Portland.

We're looking forward to a very full stage and a very full night of some of the best big band tunes around.

There will be some tickets available at the door, or grab them ahead of time at www.albertaabbey.org. We'll see you at 7!

We have an unfortunate but important update about tonight.

We were looking forward to waxing nostalgic and enjoying the beautiful songs of Norah Jones with you, but unfortunately, that will have to wait.

Due to a medical issue, the show has to be postponed. We apologize for the last-minute notice and we wish the artist a speedy and smooth return to full health.

Since the new date will likely not be until 2027, we will be issuing full refunds to everyone who purchased tickets. Those who purchased tickets will also receive an email notification when the new date goes on sale.

We hope you’ll come away with us when the time comes again.

Tonight, we want to wish a very Happy 50th Birthday to Casey O’Donnell!

This isn’t a standard Abbey show. It’s a birthday party, a generational celebration, and a night of some damn good rock & roll all rolled into one.

We’re glad you chose to celebrate this milestone with us at The Abbey, and we’re especially excited to have three generations of drummers taking the Abbey stage for this special celebration.

Main Stage Open Mic is happening NOW! 🎤

The happy hour deals are flowing, the sign-up sheet is out, and we’re getting ready for another night of incredible talent from near and far.

All genres. All experience levels. Musicians, poets, comedians, and more, everyone is welcome to take the stage!

This is an all-ages event, so please keep that in mind when choosing your material. Come sign up, grab a drink, and join us for a great night of live talent!

Tomorrow: Twisted Whistle reunites for the first time in more than a decade.

Formed in Portland in 2009, Twisted Whistle went their separate ways in late 2013 when Jeff Hays and David Gerow moved away. Tomorrow, Jeff returns to Portland to reunite with Kina Lyn Muir and Matt Franzen for two sets of Twisted Whistle, including the band's signature three-part harmonies.

The evening also features local young musicians supported by Make Waves, the music education nonprofit founded by Kina and based at The Abbey. The concert is a fundraiser for Make Waves and its work supporting music education for students and teachers.

Come on out, enjoy some great music, and support a great cause!

We're just about 30 minutes out from opening doors for this month's MainStage Open Mic and we can't wait to see who shows up today.

Every month(ish) we welcome people of all ages, genres, and performance experience levels to bring their material to the main Abbey stage. There is some backline available and everyone gets to perform with professional stage lighting and amplification. It's a great chance for experienced performers to test out new material and for new performers to get used to being up on stage.

We also welcome you to come and check it out - even if you don't want to perform! This is a great community of supportive and creative artists and we'd love to welcome you into it.

Tonight, we invite you to gather with us for an evening of music that nourishes the spirit and celebrates the timeless voice of the kora.

For centuries, the kora has carried stories, history, and devotion across West Africa. With 21 strings and a voice that is both luminous and deeply grounding, it has accompanied generations of griots, the keepers of oral tradition whose music preserves memory, wisdom, and culture.

Grammy nominated kora master Youssoupha Sidibe's music grows from that lineage while weaving together traditional West African music and the Sufi devotional traditions of his Senegalese homeland. His performances are rooted in joy, reverence, and the belief that music has the power to bring people together in love and peace.

Opening the evening is interdisciplinary vocalist and performer Kavita Kat Macmillan, whose work weaves together mantra, ritual, sound yoga, and embodied movement. Rooted in devotional singing and creative awakening, her performances invite deep listening, authentic expression, and connection with ourselves, one another, and the living world.
