Background:
Gateway Community Services is a for-profit, limited liability company.
Gateway Community Services Maine is a 501(c)3 non-profit in Maine.
Gateway Community Services Maine was founded in 2016 by Abdullahi Ali, who also founded the LLC. The two organizations are independent, and Ali is no longer involved in the work of the non-profit.
Statement:
Gateway Community Services Maine (GCSM) is a nonprofit organization that is independent from the for-profit corporation with a similar name. We are governed by a volunteer-led Board of Directors and operate in full compliance with federal and state law. We work to strengthen the mental, physical, civic, and economic health of communities across southern and central Maine through our Wellness services, Youth Leadership programming, and community hubs in Portland and Lewiston. We are disheartened by recent news reports alleging our involvement in a fraudulent Mainecare/Medicaid billing scheme. Gateway Community Services Maine (GCSM) is funded through grants and charitable contributions, and we do not bill MaineCare/Medicaid for services or provide services reimbursed by MaineCare.
The carelessness of these allegations hurts our organizations, our communities, the people we serve, and endangers our staff. These attacks are part of a coordinated national effort to target immigrant communities—people who contribute every day to the places where they live and work. We will continue our work to improve systems, provide support, strengthen voices, deepen connection, and foster community to address the collective challenges facing Maine. This is a time when we need to build community, not tear it down or divide it.
To learn more about our work and to support us, please visit gcsmaine.org. We also encourage people to support the Maine Solidarity Fund, which directly supports families navigating the detention of a loved one and healthcare access when insurance fails our neighbors.
Sincerely,
Board of Directors

A longtime member of the GCSM family, Nathan Davis began on the ground with program delivery and most recently served as Director of Programs. His deep commitment to community-led solutions and equity-centered work has shaped GCSM’s impact across Maine.
Nathan’s leadership honors the foundation laid by Abdullahi Ali and brings fresh energy to our mission: making Maine an inclusive, connected, and thriving home for all.
At GCSM, we build culturally responsive systems of care that promote belonging, mobility, and wellbeing for immigrant and BIPOC communities. As Executive Director, Nathan is ready to lead us into our next chapter—deepening community connections, nurturing youth leadership, and building a more resilient future.

We’re excited to have a space dedicated to sharing our work in community health, youth leadership, climate resilience, and more—centered around building a more inclusive and connected Maine.
Until now, we shared a page with our clinical affiliate, Gateway Community Services, who continue to provide vital mental health services to MaineCare-eligible clients. Moving forward, this page will focus on GCSM’s community-based programs and partnerships.
