What a summer it was for Learn to Row! We loved welcoming so many new athletes to the boathouse, getting them on the water, and introducing them to the sport we love. There’s nothing better than watching those first few uncertain strokes turn into confidence, teamwork, and speed.

A huge thank you to our coaches and varsity athletes who made each camp such a great experience. And we’re over the moon that so many of our summer campers are becoming teammates and joining ORU for the fall season! We can’t wait to see what comes next.

Toby Finn became a World Champion today competing in the USA Mixed 8+.
Huge congrats to him for his fantastic performance at the U23 World Championships in Germany, bringing home both the bronze and the gold medals. 🏅👏

🥇 History made for USA!

After standout performances by the men’s and women’s fours yesterday, the two crews joined forces in the mixed eight to capture gold in the inaugural U23 World Championship event. A historic first, and the U.S. is the first-ever world champion. 🇺🇸🚣

We're so happy about Toby's success at the U23 World Championship in Germany. Toby Finn is a former youth rower from ORU, he's continuing his rowing career in college level, and just won a bronze medal stroking the M4-.
Tomorrow, on Sunday he'll be competing in another Grand Final, and racing in the USA mixed 8+. Wishing him another podium finish at the World Championship!

U23 World Championship

We're thrilled to cheer an alumni rower from ORU at the U23 World Championships in Germany this week.
Toby Finn is stroking the men's 4- and he is rowing in the mixed 8+ as a second event.
Today, his men’s 4- won their heat in the preliminaries for Finals A and B, and tomorrow they'll compete for a spot in the Grand Final. We hope he races in both -the men's straight four, and mixed eight Grand finals on Sunday. Wishing him a great race in tomorrow's repechages!

Last but not least, introducing the Open Gender 4+!

This crew is once again one of our newer lineups, but if you ask them, the outcome is already decided. When asked for a fun fact about them, they said, “We started winning and we never stopped.”

Originally scullers, this crew made the jump to sweeping largely because of the OG 4+ and has been figuring it out as they go. Fortunately, confidence has never been in short supply and confidence is key.

Whether it’s blind optimism or a glimpse into the future, they’ll be heading to Sarasota fully convinced that good things are on the horizon.

Catch them taking on this new nationals event in the OG 4+ and proving that sometimes all you need is a little boat speed and a lot of confidence. Wish them luck as they carry on the ORU open gender legacy.

Introducing the Men’s 2V 4x!

This crew has only been rowing together for about two months, but you’d never know it from the way they’ve been racing.

Despite being one of our youngest U19 lineups, they wasted no time finding speed together, winning Regionals by over 13 seconds.

Spencer, Alex, and Ozzy all bring valuable Nationals experience to this boat, while Asher will be making his Nationals debut after showing plenty of speed all season. Together, they’ve quickly turned a new lineup into a fast one. This crew has proven that chemistry doesn’t always take years to build. They’re headed to Sarasota ready to see what they can do on the national stage.

Introducing the Men’s 1V 4x!

This crew is bringing a powerful mix of experience and fresh speed to Sarasota. Kaan, Matthew, and Kai all stood on the podium last year, bringing home silver medals in their respective events at Nationals 2025. Joining them is Rowan, who is making his Nationals debut after an impressive season racing successfully in a variety of lineups.

Between them, they have plenty of race experience, a lot of boat speed, and a healthy amount of competitive fire.

With veteran leadership, emerging talent, and just enough chaos to keep their coaches on their toes, this crew is ready to take on the national stage. Watch for them in Sarasota as they chase speed, hunt down medals, and showcase the work they’ve put in all season long.

Next up, the Men’s U17 4x!

This boat has a history of speed. Lincoln, Rowan, and Gryffin have been racing together for the past three years and have made the trip to Nationals in the quad every season, earning spots in the A-final in their previous trips. This season, they’ve added Dylan to the crew, who brings max speed and is an absolute powerhouse.

One thing this crew has in common is commitment. Early mornings, long practices, winter training sessions, and countless meters on the water are simply part of their routine. They’ve earned every bit of their speed through hard work, consistency, and a willingness to put in the extra effort.

At Regionals, they put together an open-water victory, and now they’re excited to showcase all that hard work in Florida. Watch for this crew to bring speed, experience, and determination when they line up in Sarasota.

Introducing the Open Gender 2x

This duo has been rowing together since the fall, kicking things off with a win at Tail of the Lake and building speed ever since. While they haven’t raced this lineup at many spring regattas, they’re beyond hyped to take on Sarasota together.

Plamen always says the most important thing for boat speed and cohesion is sibling like love and these two have certainly taken that to heart.

This boat has a lot to live up to… ORU’s OG 2x has medaled every year since the event’s inaugural appearance at Nationals in 2023. No pressure.

Their biggest strengths? Boat speed… and somehow staying way too late in the parking lot (and maybe also their hair).

Catch them bringing the energy, the speed, and hopefully making it out of the hotel parking lot in time for their race.

Introducing the Women’s U17 4x

To say this boat has had a strong season would be an understatement. Racing together for the last year and a half and now in their second spring season together, this crew remains undefeated in the Northwest

After placing 6th in the U16 4x+ at Nationals last year, they’re back and hungry for more.

Think you’re seeing double? Nope, this boat is almost made up entirely of twins (except for Moxie). Although, they’re so close they might as well be quadruplets anyway.

Catch them joking around on the start line to calm the nerves, but ready to lock in once that flag drops in Sarasota.
