I’m sure many of you are tired of hearing me talk about time loss and the importance of protecting your time. Honestly, I don't know how many times I can say it, but it is worth repeating because it directly affects your job security.

TriMet can terminate your employment for excessive time loss. Additionally, once you reach a Notice of Last Chance, failing your CCEs can almost certainly result in termination. That is why it is so important to understand and use the protected time that is available to you.

Since protected time exists for your benefit, why not take advantage of it when needed? Most of the shop stewards at Center are knowledgeable about the available options and can help answer your questions or guide you through the process.

So, with that said, please protect your time. Understanding your rights and using the protections available to you can make all the difference in safeguarding your job.

Attendance Policy: The Cold Hard Facts
Attendance issues are the quickest way to lose your job. If you are let go due to attendance, you will not qualify for unemployment benefits.
There are no more "goals" or grey areas. The policy is strictly enforced as follows:

80 Hours - Conversation - Informal discussion with management
91 Hours - Warning Letter - Remains on your active record for 18 months
110 Hours - Reprimand - Issued with strict conditions of continued employment

Bottom Line: Please come to work. I do not want to see anyone lose their livelihood over attendance. It is simply not worth it.

As fall approaches, our bargaining unit is preparing for another season of change, responsibility, and solidarity. With changing schedules, seasonal demands, and continued developments within the District, it is more important than ever that we remain informed, united, and supportive of one another.

The District has proposed significant changes to our Collective Bargaining Agreement connected to its revised administrative structure and creation of the Transit Supervisor position. The draft Memorandum of Understanding describes proposed changes affecting Articles 6, 11, 14, 18, 21, 23, and 26, primarily replacing references to the Operations Superintendent and General Manager within the contractual chain of command.

However, a proposal is different from an agreement. The document itself is clearly marked “DRAFT FOR REVIEW AND DISCUSSION,” and states that it becomes effective only upon ex*****on by both parties. Until bargaining is completed and a mutually accepted agreement is signed, our existing CBA remains the foundation governing our workplace.

As we prepare for fall, we must also remember that union strength is about more than contract language. It means standing beside our coworkers when they face hardship, workplace concerns, injuries, disciplinary matters, or simply difficult days.

Our greatest strength continues to come from supporting one another, communicating openly, protecting the bargaining process, and ensuring every member knows they are not standing alone. This fall, solidarity remains our strongest tool.

Join Leith Dist, ATU Local 757 Benefits Coordinator, for an informational session at the ATU Local 757 Union Hall to learn how the HRA/VEBA plan works.

Topics include:
• How the VEBA/HRA account works
• Examples of available insurance plans
• How to enroll in medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage
• Tips and guidance for navigating the plan and enrollment process

This call to action is simple: grab a band-aid, put it on your right cheek. When passengers say, “Why are you folks wearing those?” it opens the door to direct dialogue; we say, “We are raising awareness of transit worker safety.” And “transit worker safety is public safety.”

We are challenging everyone to stand up and stand together in solidarity!
