After 13 years of operation, PelotonLabs will be closing as an open coworking space. The new tenant, Presente! will be taking over the master lease March 1.
We are planning a closing reception on Wednesday, Feb 21, 6-8pm, for all past and current community members, and anyone who has participated and enjoyed Peloton during its years and hope you will join us to celebrate the community we’ve created over the years.
Background:
Peter Bass and Liz Trice opened Peloton as the first large coworking space in Maine to support and build a community of remote workers, entrepreneurs and non-profits and self-employed persons to pursue their dreams without fear. Our goal was to create a space that was more than just a place to work - that was a genuine community - at a time when remote work was still relatively rare. We were successful in many ways: thousands of people have come through the doors to enjoy their work, meet others, learn, and be inspired through working in the space and attending the hundreds of events we hosted over the years. We’ve seen great growth in Portland as a vibrant place for remote workers to live and a great growth in the visibility of Portland as a entrepreneurial startup community, including the locating of the Roux Institute. It has been a joy, and a dream to get to know so many people, and to help build a community that will continue long into the future.
Despite the heartache of closing a chapter that has meant so much to so many, it is satisfying to know that we have connected hundreds people to each other, enabled massive learning, and created a beautiful space that has inspired people to see possibilities in their own lives.
Presente!, the new master tenant, is a current Peloton member organization that empowers displaced Afro/Indigenous and Latinx peoples of Maine through survival programs, community power building, cultural celebration, and transformative healing practice. We are delighted that the space can serve their important mission.
We realize change is hard and appreciate your loyalty, your friendship, and your understanding.

Betsy Mayberry & Vee Sheehan: Bringing the World – and this year, India! – to Maine through the Camden Conference
Every month PelotonLabs co-founder Liz Trice interviews local community members. In December, Liz caught up with Betsy and Vee, both Portland residents. They are longtime volunteers helping to run the Camden Conference, which hosts events every year that educate people in Maine and beyond on global issues. This year’s conference is February 16th through 18th, live in Camden and livestreamed to homes and other venues, including Luther Bonney Hall at USM in Portland. Also, there are dozens of community events, both live and virtual, held mostly in libraries, leading up to the conference.
