When I was a kid I used to stare at my grandpa’s callused stained sausage finger hands and think, “how does grandma let him touch her with those things!” These are just hands of a proud blue collar workin man and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Teach your kids it’s ok to get your hands dirty. Get some blisters, scars, stains, it connects you to what life used to be all about, hard work. It doesn’t get any more simple and satisfying than that.

Had a fun weekend building some crazy cool structures for at the main entry and orchard. Got to meet and work with some great people who put some creative design time into this project and trusted me with making it happen. Looking forward to seeing it all lit up next weekend with the artistic lighting they’re adding to it all. Hope to see y’all there. 🤠 🎵 🕺

Another damn fine ! The photo stage was a big hit and it sure was nice seeing the bar I built last year. I wonder what I’ll create for next year 2025 🤔.

Little nightstand I just finished. 100% reclaimed and recycled fir. Even the drawer k**b I made from an agate I found. No hardware, no screws, just good old fashioned joinery and a whole lotta love and creativity.

Added some skylights to the living space on the new house. Having as much natural light as possible in our home has always been as important to us as it is to our plants. It’s fun watching them grow and stretch towards the skylights over the years.

Started work on the new shop a couple weeks ago with having a bunch of sheet metal replaced along with some rotten purlins and other soggy framing. Windows went in this last week for some much needed light into the dark space. Next week is framing out the interior to add some insulation and then I’ll be mostly ready to start bring over all of the machinery and tools along with my hordes of collected woods.

My interior finish/millwork set up. It’s like a wood shop in a bite size and mobile form. miter saw set up with the vacuum dust collector. My near 20 year old table saw that refuses to die that I equipped with a dust collector from plugged into a switch that kicks it on when you fire up the saw. I cover the bottom of the saw for added dust protection with a trash bag, slightly ghetto but it works. I add a .woodworking dust fan to catch fine particles that become airborne. Lastly, for a work table to lay out my crown miters, mortising, sanding, jamb builds and whatever else, I use a pair of recycled bi-fold doors. These fold up small for transport and are easy to store away. As you can see in the photos, I still get some dust that escapes here and there mostly from hand power tools but it’s small potatoes compared to what happens without this set up. I do what I can to keep it clean and organized when inside clients homes. Oh ya, can’t forget about a job site microwave, nothing beats a warm meal on a cold winters day.

On to another year and hoping for an even better one than the last. Here’s to some great times in 2023. Thank you to all of you who make this possible for me, and the rest of my amazing family.

Some days it’s the wood shop, some days it’s fine finish work, some days it’s just job management, but today it’s out in the cold rain on a lake. Another beautiful day to be alive in the great Pacific Northwest. Bring on the elements.
