What makes the Oregon League THE OREGON LEAGUE?

According to CASSIDY SMART of Corvallis Composite Team fame AND the WINNER of our inaugural design contest, it’s all about taking in that varied Oregon terrain with friends. In Cassidy’s words:

“I think for me the Oregon League represents getting outdoors on your
bike and getting to see all these awesome views around the state. Each race weekend is drastically different: you got Rickreall with its vineyards and dry, open fields, Mt. Bachelor with its tough technical single track, and Newport’s muddy, forested bike trails. I love each and every race I’ve participated in during my 4 years in NICA (soon to be 5!) and I know I would not have had the opportunity to ride all these unique places in Oregon had I not joined all those years ago. Of course, my teammates and coaches mean a ton and I love talking to
everyone at practices, but I think what really makes it magic is what each race venue has to offer. To be able to have fun with my team
while pre riding the courses, taking in the views, and crossing the finish line knowing you get to do it all again in two weeks is truly
what makes NICA, NICA.”

Congratulations Cassidy! Look for this awesome design at the Prologue in August. We’ll have a limited run of stickers available!

We hosted our annual Coach Camp this past weekend with 75 Oregon League coaches to dive into something that’s at the core of what we do: belonging. How do we intentionally create it? What might we unintentionally do to create belonging uncertainty? What are our individual responsibilities, our team’s, and the league’s?

We had sessions on what to do when put in hard situations involving conflict, unmet expectations, and being let down.

We reflected on how we want student-athletes and coaches to talk about us at the end of the season, and set some goals (both performance/technical and fun) for ourselves for the year.

We interviewed five of our amazing, bright students from the Student Advisory Crew (mostly seniors), and when asked what they’d miss most about the league, their response throughout was, “Family. It feels like one big family.” Not the riding. Not the races. It’s the feeling they get from being part of this, that feeling of belonging.

And it’s true; this is like family. We’re supporting each other, pushing each other, and helping each other get up when we make mistakes. And we all make mistakes and learn from those and how we can do better next time. From the outside, it may look like we love creating bike parties and teaching bike skills and having fun with our teams, and all that is true! But we’re also here for the long haul - the good work - of creating better people.

Thanks to all the coaches that joined us for the weekend, the event volunteers that helped make it shine, John O’Sullivan for sharing his wisdom, our wonderful students from SAC, and our WFA and CPR instructors. And to Bailey Beltramo for capturing so much of the magic.

A lot of love and care goes into creating this league from the inside out, and we are so excited to share this season with you all.

April showers bring student-athlete powers! Okay, so maybe our poetry skills are a little rusty. BUT don’t worry...what we lack in rhymes, we make up for in excitement because Oregon League friends, student-athlete registration for the 2026 season is now open.
⚙️
Registration Process
Here’s the deal: teams can now begin inviting student-athletes to register for the season. This process is completed through NICA’s Pit Zone platform. We mention this because sometimes these invites land in SPAM folders, so if you know your team has started sending out invitations and you don’t see yours, please check those pesky SPAM folders.
⚙️
Note: Each team sets their own calendar for this process, so if you have any questions about specific timelines and processes, please reach out to your team director directly.

It was recently announced that our very own Robyn Saunders Wilson was awarded NICA Coach of the Year. Y’all, that human. What a gift. Anyone who has met Robyn will understand why she received this award, for her desire to create belonging, have fun, and be a reliable and steady presence for her students and team have been unwavering from the very start. She is pure magic, and this is a note from the league as a whole to say CONGRATULATIONS, ROBYN! We love and adore you so, and are grateful you’re here with us to share your sparkle. You are a force 💕
