Rattober Day 7: Courier Rat

Ft Post Master Huckleberry

Huck is having surgery TOMORROW! When he arrived, he had the lower portion of his tail missing and two vertebrae exposed. He was only three weeks old and far too young to undergo surgery. With pain meds and antibiotics, he did well, and eventually the exposed bone detached and his tail healed over. We hoped that would be the end of it, but recently the end of his nub started to turn grey. It seems that the tissue there isn't getting adequate circulation, so his little nub has to get nubbier.

Our medical fund is currently in the negative by over $1300, and Huck's tail amputation will add another big chunk to that deficit. So if you can comfortably donate, please consider sending a little something our way to help us cover the sanctuary's medical expenses. Huck will be checking the mail diligently to make sure he sees every single donation!

Yarrow and Chowder were at the vet today for rechecks, and it's good news all around!

Yarrow has been tapering off of one of her eye drops, and she is looking good. Her right eye is looking great, and while her left eye still has some issues, she has not gotten worse during the taper and we actually got the ok to reduce the frequency of another one of her eye drops.

Chowder's ear infection has cleared up, and he also gets to stop some of his meds. All in all, it's a good day when we end the day with fewer meds and the same number of rats.

We are still deeply in the hole, and we really need to get our medical fund back in the positive to prepare for another round of vet visits and Huck's tail amputation next week. If you are able to spare a little, please consider making a donation to their care!

HEY HEY IT'S RATTOBER!! Wiggle those rabbit ears, check those bars, and smash that like button!

While you're at it, consider sending a little 💰 to Nugget and her friends here at the sanctuary. We're swimming in vet bills, and our medical fund is just dust and cobwebs. Seasonally appropriate, perhaps, but not a currency our vet accepts. Nugget insists she can pay in "nuggets" of her own, which she says are very valuable, but in reality are just 💩

Holly and Eem here for ! Eem is at the vet today, along with Casper and Madrone for check ups. They are all doing pretty well, so hopefully it's an easy day.

That said, even routine exams cost money, and three rechecks at $60 each plus a med refill will run us around $200 today. Our medical fund is already tapped out with a deficit of $1144. Can you help us close that gap and cover today's visits? Every little bit helps!
