Congratulations Deputy McGuire and thank you for your decades of service to the City of Portland!

Today marks the final shift for Deputy Chief Kevin McGuire. At 0800 tomorrow morning, DC McGuire will officially retire from the department after serving the City of Portland, Maine for over 31 years.

Chief McGuire joined the department in May 1995 as a firefighter and paramedic. He was promoted to lieutenant in March 2001, where he served many years on Munjoy Hill. He was promoted to captain in January 2015 and promoted to deputy chief in April 2019 and has served as the shift commander on Platoon 1 since.

In addition to shift work, Chief McGuire has served many additional roles on the department and his contributions over the years are innumerable, including serving on the cadre of many drill schools, and being an instrumental part of EMS instruction and operations.

Please join us in thanking DC McGuire for his hard work and dedication to the city and the department and wish him a happy and healthy retirement!

Just some of the great work performed by our burn foundation each year!

Five of the 12 people who were injured in the fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont were still being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland as of Tuesday. Behind the scenes, the Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation is assisting their families by providing them with meals and housing so their loved ones can stay close during their recovery in the hospital. This week we recognize the efforts of our members,celebrating National EMS Week. Each member of the PFD is also a pre hospital emergency medical provider, the backbone of the EMS system. Every day our members provide exceptional care and are faced with many challenges along the way. Our members perform their duties without hesitation, whether it be a serious medical event, or another type of emergency.

PFD Companies are currently operating at an All Hands Fire at 568 Riverside St, Radius Recycling, for a large pile of scrap metal that is on fire.

Please use caution and avoid the area while crews continue operations.
