Mere Objects
Participatory art honoring people who have experienced sexual violence. Current exhibition: Rochester, NY, USA. New participants always welcome! Not a survivor?
Launched in October 2016, Mere Objects is the project of Sarah Jane (@Sarah Jane's Studio) in collaboration with an advisory group of fellow survivors of sexual violence. Its purpose is to honor and empower survivors of r**e, sexual abuse, & sexual assault, and to increase awareness of survivors within our communities. Survivors of all genders are encouraged to submit small objects to be included
Hey friends, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted here. I was pretty burnt out for a while there, but I am beginning to feel ready to return — and unfortunately this project remains just as relevant as ever.
I’m in the process of setting some better boundaries to ensure that this work will be healthy and sustainable for me, and also deciding how I want to move forward with the project from here. I don’t anticipate massive changes — the objects will definitely remain central — but I appreciate this time to reassess & recalibrate.
Obviously it’s been a long time for you, too, and I understand that some folks may be at a very different place than when they initially followed this project. If you find yourself needing to unfollow this page or even ask that your object be retired from the project, you have my full support to do so.
I’ll follow up here once I have a clear plan forward and am ready to begin accepting new participants, and I’ll keep you posted as I gain a better sense of where Mere Objects fits into the world of 2021.
Thanks for all your patience & support. Truly. - SJ

You may have noticed it’s been a while. My instinct is to apologize, but the reality is that I’m human, and this work is hard. The time away has been necessary and good — and also, it’s good to be back.
