PDF Signs

Clean vinyl cuts. Fast w**ding. That’s what dialed-in plotter settings look like. 🐾

Weeding a large batch of paw print vinyl die-cut decals and these peeled off effortlessly. No fighting the vinyl, no tiny pieces staying behind, and no wasting time picking at every detail.

The secret? Proper vinyl plotter settings.

Blade depth, cutting pressure, speed, and material settings all have to be dialed in correctly. When they are, your vinyl decals cut cleanly and w**d quickly.

And when everything is working suspiciously well, you almost start wondering if something is wrong. The cuts are too clean, the w**ding is too easy, and the production line is moving too smoothly.

That means faster vinyl decal production, less material waste, and cleaner finished graphics — especially when you’re producing hundreds of pieces.

⚙️ The Step That Makes Channel Letters Bend.

Our notcher is cutting precise notches into aluminum coil used for channel letter builds. Those notches allow the aluminum returns to bend and form around the letter shape with cleaner corners, tighter bends, and more consistent fabrication.

It’s one of those steps that may look simple on camera, but proper notching makes a BIG difference when you’re building channel letters — especially when you’re producing detailed logos, smaller letters, or large quantities.

From aluminum fabrication → finished channel letters.

One of those little vinyl tools you don’t think you need, until you hear that dreaded SCRAAAAAPE. 😭

If you’re trimming vinyl graphics, decals, wall graphics, window graphics, vehicle graphics, or printed vinyl, an edge guard can be a seriously useful little addition to the toolbox.

The idea is simple: the edge guard rides along the edge of your substrate while you trim the excess bleed, helping keep your blade where it belongs, in the vinyl, not in your substrate.

Because replacing a piece of ACM, PVC, acrylic, aluminum, or another sign substrate because you got a little too aggressive with a knife is a very expensive way to learn a lesson.

This is the kind of sign-making tool, vinyl installation tool, and graphic finishing tool that deserves a permanent spot in the shop.

📌 SAVE THIS for the next time you’re trimming a graphic.

👥 And SEND THIS to the person who always gets a little too close to the substrate. You know who they are. 😂

A channel letter can look perfect on the outside but what happens when it needs service 5 years later? 👀

This is why serviceability matters when fabricating channel letters.

For this build, the trim cap is mechanically secured with screws through the trim cap and into the aluminum return. That gives us access to the inside of the channel letter when LEDs, wiring, or other components eventually need attention.

Because let’s be real: signs live outside. LEDs fail. Power supplies fail. Wiring needs attention. Stuff happens. 😂

The goal isn’t just to make a custom channel letter sign that looks great when it leaves our shop, it’s to fabricate it in a way that can actually be maintained down the road.

At PDF Signs, we fabricate custom channel letters, illuminated signs, reverse channel letters, 3D letters, dimensional signage, LED signs, and commercial signage for businesses, property managers, contractors, franchises, and national projects.

🦾 Small channel letters comes with big responsibilities.

One of the biggest misconceptions in sign fabrication is that making a channel letter or anything smaller automatically makes it cheaper. Less material doesn’t always mean less labor.

When channel letters get really small, fabrication can actually become more tedious. Returns are tighter, trim cap is harder to work with, bends require more precision, and small imperfections become much more noticeable.

This particular project is a great example of the detail that goes into small custom channel letter signs, even when some of the finished letters is only a fraction of the size of the storefront sign.

We fabricate custom channel letters, illuminated channel letters, reverse channel letters, 3D letters, dimensional signage and custom commercial signs. From artwork and fabrication.

🦾🙌 Our vinyl lamination setup is dialed in for the way we produce signs, graphics, wraps, and large-format projects.

The goal? Perfect alignment, consistent pressure, minimal waste, and a clean finished graphic every time.

We print the vinyl, allow the ink to properly dry/cure, then laminate it using our large-format laminator with the right pressure and tension for the material. From there, it’s ready for trimming, contour cutting, application, or installation.

Having the printer, laminator, plotter, production tables, and finishing area positioned together makes a huge difference in production flow. Less unnecessary handling = fewer opportunities for dust, scratches, wrinkles, misalignment, or damaged graphics.

And yes… having the right equipment matters. But how you set it up and actually use it matters just as much. 😮‍💨
