🚨 That "Charter" email might not be from Charter.

Before you click anything, check the sender's email address — not just the name. Scammers can make the name say anything. The address is where they get caught.

Here's what to look for:
🔍 Misspelled domains — "arnazon.com" or "amaz0n.net" instead of amazon.com. One swapped letter is all it takes.
🔍 Random characters — real companies don't email you from "[email protected]"
🔍 Free email accounts — your bank will never contact you from a Gmail or Yahoo address. Ever.
🔍 Domains that don't match — an email "from Microsoft" sent from an address ending in anything other than microsoft.com is fake.

Other red flags:
⚠️ Urgent threats ("your account will be closed in 24 hours!")
⚠️ Generic greetings ("Dear Customer")
⚠️ Links you're pressured to click right now
⚠️ Attachments you weren't expecting

Golden rule: hover over links before clicking, and when in doubt, go to the company's website directly instead of clicking anything in the email.

🔐 Let's Talk Passwords

One of the most common problems we see isn't a computer virus... it's forgotten passwords.

Here are a few best practices we recommend:

✅ Keep a physical password book.
It might sound old-fashioned, but a dedicated password book stored in a safe place is often more reliable than trying to remember dozens of complex passwords.

✅ Make sure someone you trust knows where it is.
If something happens to you, your spouse, family member, or trusted friend should know where to find it. This can save a lot of stress during an emergency.

✅ Password managers are a great option... with one catch.
They can securely store all your passwords, but if you forget the master password and don't have recovery options set up, you could lose access to everything inside. Make sure you know how you'll get back into your password manager if needed.

📧 Your email password is the MOST important password you have.

Think about it: when you click "Forgot Password" on almost any website, where does the reset link go?

Your email.

If someone gains access to your email account, they can often reset passwords for your bank, social media, shopping accounts, streaming services, and more. Protect your email with a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.

A little preparation today can prevent a major headache tomorrow.

Intel Mac owners: You're capped at macOS 26, but your apps keep working perfectly. You just won't get new OS features. No biggie.

Apple Silicon owners (M1/M2/M3/M4): You've got until Fall 2027 before Intel apps stop working. Most popular stuff already updated years ago.

By 2027, the EU is requiring most devices to have replaceable batteries using standard tools. No more glued-in nightmares. No more "we don't sell parts." Manufacturers even have to guarantee spare batteries for 5 years.

What this means for you: cheaper repairs, devices that actually last, and less pressure to upgrade every two years.
Some phones get a pass if they hit crazy durability standards, but most other handheld electronics are needing to meet the requirements.
