The puck is officially sliding toward North Texas as the Dallas Stars have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to develop a new arena and entertainment district at the site of The Shops at Willow Bend. This potential move signals a massive shift for the franchise as they look to build a premier destination for hockey and local entertainment in Plano.
Stars owner Tom Gaglardi noted that this project represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the team to be part of the redevelopment of the mall area. While this means the Stars would eventually move from their current downtown home once their lease expires in 2031, the prospect of a one-billion-dollar arena project at the Dallas North Tollway is generating incredible buzz for the community. The Plano City Council is the next stop for this agreement as they prepare to vote on the future of the site.
