this is why i will always advocate for lash artists learning about the eyes we work around every single day! 👁️

we don’t need to be optometrists (and we absolutely shouldn’t be diagnosing our clients!!!!) but we SHOULD understand basic ocular anatomy, healthy vs. abnormal lash lines, and common minor issues we may encounter in the chair. 📚

that knowledge allows us to recognize when something looks a little different, educate within our scope, and know when it’s time to refer a client to an eye care professional. 🤍

one occasional clogged meibomian gland doesn’t automatically mean someone has mgd. but frequent blockages, persistent irritation, redness, swelling, pain, dry eye symptoms, or recurring bumps? that’s a conversation for your optometrist.👩🏻‍⚕️

we work on eyelids and lash lines for a living. knowing a little something about them should probably be part of the job. 🫶🏼

and before someone tells me to wash my lashes.... 😂 a clogged meibomian gland does NOT automatically mean poor hygiene. 🧼 these glands can become temporarily obstructed when the meibum (oil) gets thicker or isn’t flowing normally, and things like inflammation, incomplete blinking, environmental factors, and underlying gland dysfunction can all play a role!

product recommendations are something i take very seriously as a health-conscious lash artist/educator. i won’t recommend anything until i’ve researched it, reviewed the sds, looked into the ingredients, personally tested the products myself, and feel confident in the people and values behind the brand. ✨
