GHP Sports Science Camp

Most athletes spend their whole career training hard and never once stop to understand what’s actually happening inside their body.

This camp changes that.

Over two weeks, athletes work alongside physical therapists, registered dietitians, and sports science professionals — visiting labs, testing on equipment, and connecting what they learn directly to their training.

What they’ll get into:
• Force plates & gait analysis
• Energy systems & metabolism
• Sports nutrition for a full season
• Injury prevention & recovery
• Sports psychology & mental performance

SUMMER TRACKSIDE IS BACK ☀️
Are you ready for your best off-season yet?

Starting June 15th, we’re bringing back our highest-impact training for athletes who want to actually improve, not just “stay in shape.”

Who it’s for:
Track, XC, and field sport athletes (soccer, lacrosse, football + more)

📅 THE DETAILS
10 Weeks: June 15 – Aug 21
🏃 Track: 7:00–8:15am (4x/week)
🏋️ Strength: mornings + evenings (2x/week)

📍 Schenley Oval + GHP

Training Groups:

* XC: Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri
* Sprinters: Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri
* Field Sports: Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs



⚙️ HOW IT WORKS

* Sport-specific speed training (2–4x/week)
* Structured strength training (2x/week)
* Led by dedicated coaches for each group
* New athletes start with 1:1 sessions before joining

🎊 Welcome Coach Zach Herrington - Intern Coach

Zach is a senior Exercise Science major at Slippery Rock University. He will attend SRU’s Physical Therapy program after completing his undergraduate degree this spring to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Some activities he enjoys doing outside of school include playing rugby, working out, and collecting his favorite music albums on vinyl. He is looking forward to working with you all during the course of his internship this spring

Welcome Coach Elena Alves - Apprentice Coach

Elena is a New Jersey native who moved to Pittsburgh after falling in love with the city’s culture and energy. She is a trail running enthusiast and avid long-distance hiker—she’s completed multiple ultramarathons and thru-hiked both the Appalachian Trail and the Colorado Trail.

Strength training has been a cornerstone of her athletic journey, helping her recover from an ACL reconstruction and a hip labrum repair. She believes being strong is essential for resilience, staying injury-free, and performing at her best in the sports she loves.

Elena is excited to share what she’s learned, help athletes reach their own goals, and guide them toward building confidence to tackle big, scary challenges—both in the gym and beyond.

🎊Welcome Coach Micah Wilkerson

Assistant Coach - Trackside

Micah is a native of Pittsburgh who has been involved in track and field for over 20 years. Raised on the east side of the city, he began running at the age of five and continued competing through the early years of college before stepping away from the sport. Although he left competition, his passion for track and field never diminished; instead, it evolved into an early transition into advising and coaching following college.

For the past nine years, Micah has worked in the field of education with Pittsburgh Public Schools. During this time, he built strong relationships with student-athletes and witnessed firsthand the profound impact a dedicated coach can have on a person’s development. This experience reignited his commitment to serving others and led him back to track and field.

Since returning to the sport, Micah has coached athletes of all ages and has remained actively involved ever since. As an assistant coach, he is committed to helping athletes push beyond their limits and reach their full potential—both on and off the track.
