π Summer Wildlife Watch: What to Know and How to Help
As temperatures climb, so do the risks and responsibilities when it comes to local wildlife and pests. Hereβs what to keep in mind:
π¦ Mosquitoes
More than just a nuisance, mosquitoes can carry serious illnesses like Zika and West Nile virus. Protect yourself by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves, and covering standing water around your home.
π·οΈ Ticks
These tiny hitchhikers can transmit Lyme disease and other infections. Stay safe by wearing protective clothing during hikes or yard work, and always check yourself and your pets after spending time outdoors.
πΈοΈ Spiders
Most are harmless and even helpful, but some species can bite and cause irritation. Keep your space spider-free by clearing away clutter, woodpiles, and unused outdoor furniture.
π¦ Wildlife & Dehydration
Extreme heat affects animals too. Birds, squirrels, and other creatures may struggle to find water. Consider placing shallow dishes of clean water in shaded areas to support your local wildlife.

βοΈπ Summer heat isnβt just uncomfortable for usβitβs driving rats indoors in search of cooler, resource-rich spaces. As temps climb, these heat-sensitive critters look for shelter, often ending up in homes where dripping faucets, condensation, and easy access to food make survival a breeze.
π₯ Whatβs more, warm weather fuels rapid reproduction, causing rodent populations to spikeβespecially in urban areas like NYC and D.C., where concrete jungles offer plenty of hiding spots and snacks.
π§Όπͺ Want to keep rats out? Start by sealing entry points, fixing leaks, and keeping outdoor areas clean and clutter-free. Prevention is key when the heat is on.
π On behalf of all of us at Three Rivers Wildlife Control we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas! π
From our family to yours have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! π¦π
