Somers Science Research
This program offers students the opportunity to engage in authentic research experiences on a scientific topic of their choosing.
The Science Research Program at Somers High School is designed to provide students with a chance to pursue an in-depth understanding of a topic of their choice in the sciences or engineering by allowing them to participate in the community of science research and scholarship. The program is a three year endeavor that begins in their sophomore year and culminates in their senior year. During the three years, students are provided the opportunity to delve into and engage in an independent piece of research that they design and conduct under the supervision of their mentor. Students in the program are encouraged to participate in numerous competitions and symposia both in the local and national level in order to present their research. The program has produced competitors on the national level (e.g. Siemens, Intel Science Talent Search) and the International level (e.g. Intel International Science and Engineering Fair).

Earlier this week, despite the weather, two seniors from Somers Science Research traveled to Albany to present at the annual SUNY Albany Science Research Invitational. Students from across New York State shared their work with panels of judges in their respective categories - and Somers went 2 for 2!
Anya Khurana earned 2nd place for her research, “Enzymatic Tagging of Immune Cells Post CD27/CD70 Interaction Using LIPSTIC.”
Makaila Eagleton captured 1st place for her research, “Investigating the Stability of Prebiotic Uracil Under the Conditions of Impact-Generated Terrestrial Hydrothermal Systems.”
This prestigious event provided an outstanding opportunity to showcase months of dedication and innovation, and the judges clearly recognized the exceptional quality of their work.
Congratulations to Anya and Makaila on these incredible achievements - we are Somers proud!
