Happy birthday to iconic Nigerian musician King Sunny Adé! 👑🇳🇬

Born in 1946 to a Nigerian royal family, Adé became the world’s most famous performer of jùjú, a popular music of his country’s Yorùbá people.

Adé transformed the sound of jùjú by increasing the number of guitarists and introducing electronic drums and synthesizers while featuring multiple talking drums and other percussion. His first worldwide release, 1982’s Juju Music, became a sensation and helped familiarize audiences around the world with the genre.

MIM’s country music exhibit illustrates the evolution from its roots to the music style we know today and features numerous stars of the Grand Ole Opry. Notable items include instruments and wardrobe items from the careers of Roy Acuff, Brooks & Dunn, the Louvin Brothers, Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Hank Thompson, and more.

Eleven years later, the voice behind MIM’s 3-D orchestra model returns. 🎺🎻

When Henry was just 7 years old, he voiced the narration that has accompanied MIM’s 3-D orchestra model for more than a decade. Now 18, Henry returned to MIM to revisit the exhibit—and heard a much younger version of himself.

Watch as Henry reunites with a very special piece of his childhood and one of MIM’s most charming exhibits. 🎶
