Q. You have been the primary programming director, fundraiser, marketer and radio personality at KWSS 93.9 FM for 15 years. How did you get started in radio?
📻
I actually started in podcasting before radio. I had a political talk podcast called Truth Seekers in 2006. I wanted to see if I could syndicate on a now-gone indie radio station KQCX after learning a friend of mine did so with his show. When I reached out they didn't want a talk show, but liked my voice and asked if I wanted to DJ their overnights. I was curious enough to say yes. The best part was I could still pre-record and it wasn't that far off from podcasting. When KQCX merged with KWSS in 2007, they asked if I wanted the midday time and by then I was hooked so I said yes to that too! I've been with KWSS ever since.

Thank you 59 X Records for featuring me in your latest mini mag for a special Women In Music section. I talk about being a part of KWSS 93.9 FM for 15 years, how I started in radio, being a woman in the music industry, and other juicy tidbits. It’s not online, but in Phoenix you can pick up a copy at Stinkweeds Record Store!

Sedira’s work conveys the political through the personal, deploying multiple storytelling tactics and voices. Using photography, video, archival films, and recorded interviews, she unpacks issues such as the silenced cultural history of Algeria and her heritage inscribed within the French colonialization of Algeria, her parents’ homeland. By questioning the relation between history and aesthetics, trauma and form, Sedira has established herself as a significant voice in the global contemporary artworld. She will be the first artist of African descent to represent France at the 2022 Venice Biennale.

Stinkweeds, locally owned and operated has been providing the valley with the best independent and underground music for the past 33 years. We're tucked away in the charming Medlock Plaza, sharing our space with other great shops, such as Halo Piercing, Az Hi-Fi, and Frances Vintage. The LPs and CDs we sell are considered to be "hand picked", weeding out all the stuff that might just get in the way of finding your new favorite album. Our friendly staff is always willing to help you find what you are looking for, even if you're not sure what you're looking for.
