Ever wondered how journalists decide what’s news — and how to tell stories that actually matter? Now’s your chance to find out.

LOOKOUT’s Reporting As Resistance is a free, month-long online program for Arizona residents who want to learn journalism skills and apply them in the real world. From interviewing and trust-building to writing, story structure, and understanding media ethics, you’ll get hands-on experience telling stories that impact your community.

Participants who complete the program can be published in LOOKOUT’s Summer magazine and may be considered for a paid internship with our reporters during election season.

No experience? No problem. All you need is curiosity, willingness to learn, and commitment to attend our mandatory Saturday sessions, 10–12:30 p.m.

Spots are limited, so don’t wait. Sign up now at our Linktree in bio and start turning your curiosity into action.

Nearly half of the 1.1 million people served by Salt River Project may not be able to vote in the utility’s upcoming election — even if they pay the bill every month.

That’s because SRP voting eligibility isn’t based on residency. It’s tied to a century-old system rooted in farmland ownership, meaning many renters, homeowners and residents in urban areas across Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Glendale are excluded from the vote. Meanwhile, some landowners who don’t even receive SRP power can still participate.

The low-turnout race is now drawing attention from political groups trying to influence the utility’s future.
