❓ WHAT MAKES A HANDCRAFTED WOOD PIECE DIFFERENT FROM SOMETHING MASS-PRODUCED?

The biggest difference is intention.

Mass production is designed to make many pieces as consistently and efficiently as possible. Custom craftsmanship gives us room to think about the individual piece—its materials, details, function, and the person who will own it.

Wood also brings something machines can’t standardize completely: natural grain, color, texture, and variation. Those differences are part of the character.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, Scott’s vision is to create something that is not only right for the customer, but uniquely theirs.

There’s something pretty cool about using or displaying a piece and knowing yours isn’t one of 10,000 identical copies.

🍷 THE BEST HOSTING PIECES DO TWO JOBS AT ONCE.

They help you serve—and they look good enough that you want them sitting on the table.

That’s why we enjoy making pieces like charcuterie boards, cheese boards, sushi plates, trivets, and w**e accessories. They’re functional, but they also bring warmth, texture, and personality to the experience.

A handcrafted serving piece doesn’t need to wait for a special occasion, either. Use it for family night. Bring it out when friends stop by. Give it as a gift. Let it become one of those pieces that gathers a few stories along the way.

We think useful things can still be beautiful. Actually, we prefer it that way. 😎

🔍 FIVE DETAILS WE THINK ABOUT BEFORE A CUSTOM PIECE EVER FEELS FINISHED.

Good craftsmanship isn’t one big decision. It’s a lot of small decisions made carefully.

When we’re creating a custom piece, we’re thinking about:

1. How the piece will actually be used.
2. How the proportions and shape fit the idea.
3. How the wood grain and natural character contribute to the look.
4. How the details come together cleanly.
5. Whether the finished piece feels personal—not mass-produced.

That attention to detail is where craftsmanship lives. It’s also why we enjoy custom work so much: every project asks us to solve a slightly different puzzle.

If you’re looking for something functional, beautiful, and made with intention, let’s talk.

❓ CAN CUSTOM WOODWORKING REALLY BE MADE TO FIT MY SPACE?

Yes—that’s one of the biggest reasons to choose custom work in the first place.

Instead of trying to make a mass-produced piece work in a space it wasn’t designed for, custom woodworking gives us the opportunity to think about the dimensions, function, style, and personality you actually want.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, we’ve created everything from tables and boards to clocks, pens, w**e stoppers, and one-of-a-kind pieces. And if you have something else in mind, chances are we can make it for you.

The goal isn’t simply to build “a” piece. It’s to build your piece.

🪵 CUSTOM DOESN’T HAVE TO START WITH A BLUEPRINT.

Sometimes it starts with, “I wish I could find something that…”

That’s exactly where we like to begin. At 5th Degree Woodworking, the pieces on our website show what we’ve already created—but they’re also inspiration for what we can create next. If you like an existing piece, we can build something similar while making it uniquely yours. If your idea is completely different, tell us about it.

Our favorite projects often begin with a problem to solve, a space to fit, a person to surprise, or an idea that doesn’t exist on a store shelf.

We make custom wood creations and etched glass with one goal in mind: creating something that feels like it was made specifically for you—because it was.

🍷🪵 Even the w**e bottle can get a little handcrafted personality.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, we create w**e stoppers in both wood and acrylic styles.

It's a relatively small accessory—but that's exactly what makes pieces like these so much fun.

They can add character to your home bar, make an interesting host or hostess gift, or become part of a larger gift for the w**e enthusiast in your life.

And we think that's one of the coolest things about handcrafted products.

Not everything needs to be huge or elaborate to feel special.

Sometimes it's simply taking an everyday object and giving it enough craftsmanship and personality that you actually notice it.

We like making those kinds of things.

The details matter.

🍷 Here's to good w**e, good company, and accessories that don't look like everybody else's.

🥋🪵 Why "5th Degree" Woodworking? There's a story behind the name.

Our craftsman, Scott Anderson, began practicing martial arts at age 15 and ultimately earned the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in the Kensho-Do system of karate.

But the connection between martial arts and woodworking goes deeper than the name.

Focus.

Patience.

Creativity.

Adaptability.

Those are qualities developed through years of martial arts—and they're also incredibly valuable when approaching a woodworking or etching project.

Every new project presents a different challenge. Different materials. Different ideas. Different problems to solve.

And that's part of what makes creating something from scratch so rewarding.

5th Degree Woodworking represents the intersection of two crafts and the discipline that goes into continually learning, adapting, and creating.

💡🪵 "I have an idea, but I don't know if it can be made..."

Those are exactly the kinds of conversations we enjoy.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, we're not limited to simply reproducing the products you see on our website.

In fact, that's part of the fun.

If you see something we've made before, we can use it as inspiration for a similar—but unique—creation of your own.

If you've got an entirely different woodworking or glass-etching project in mind, tell us about it.

Our philosophy is pretty simple:

Chances are, we can make it for you.

Custom craftsmanship gives us the opportunity to solve problems, experiment with ideas, and create pieces that aren't already sitting on shelves everywhere else.

Your idea doesn't have to begin as a perfect blueprint.

Sometimes it just starts with, "Wouldn't it be cool if...?"

We like those four words. 😎

Small spaces deserve smart craftsmanship too.

This two-person folding table gives you useful surface space when you need it—and a design that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.

It’s the kind of piece that proves custom woodworking isn’t just about making something beautiful.

It’s about making something work beautifully for you.

5th Degree Woodworking’s two-person folding table is approximately 20" x 48", available in multiple wood varieties, and can even be finished with a protective clear epoxy coating. Like Scott’s other pieces, each one is custom-made, so no two need to be exactly alike.

Have an awkward space, specific need or idea you haven’t been able to find in a store?

That’s where custom gets interesting.

A cutting board doesn’t have to be boring.

When something lives on your counter and gets used over and over again, why shouldn’t it also look incredible?

This handcrafted wood board combines natural grain, subtle contrasting details and the kind of character that makes handmade pieces special.

5th Degree Woodworking creates boards that are meant to be used—not hidden in a cabinet.

And because Scott’s work is custom-made, yours doesn’t have to look exactly like anyone else’s. The large cutting boards offered by 5th Degree Woodworking use varied wood patterns, a food-safe finish, and can be customized with Scott directly.

Useful can still be beautiful.
