Dot Rose
Plays music for you and yours If ever anyone is the charismatic, rhythmically diligent maestro of a party, it is Dot Levine.
"With commanding but unflashy guitar and vocal virtuosity, Dot Levine plays pre-WW2 American folk music with the balance of respect and irreverence that it deserves. He's either making the tunes sizzle with an energy that would fill the dance floors at a nursing home, or he's ripping them to shreds in way would please the stray free jazz aficionado drinking juice in the corner of that home while visiting grandma. Or, more often, he's somewhere in the middle, playing with such verve that you can't imagine a better performance of "Salty Dog" or "Brother Can You Spare a Dime?" by the very people who wrote them." -Ben Remsen
"Dot's music reaches down, deep within the very core of me and pulls something out of me. Vomit." -Liam Kelly
"Blues for Happy People..." -Dave Madeloni
"(Dot Levine is) the return of handsome prince rambo." -Eliot Klein
"(Dot Levine is) Da bro with the dobro." -Suzanne Hoch
"This is a good start but I did a word search and couldn't find "sexy" or "fine as hell" anywhere in Dot's description." -Eli Shewell
"Dot plays good." -Michelle Kayserman
"...or she'll hurt you." -Stephen Horne
"Dot Levine's disarming breadth of musical integrity and exceptional humanity so enchant most (not all) of those who boogie within earshot, that they yearn only for their astonishing one-man show (when he's not supporting or leading a host of West Philadelphia's most beloved musical acts). Mayhem guitarist, poet, anarchist, raconteur, spazz, Levine sings folksongs like he's suffocating and picks their home-built guitars so violently as to earn the props of all who witness. their sense of humor is contagious, their bursts of laughter proverbial; and they spreads around him an aura of happiness... their fellow West Philadelphians recognize in the man and their musical stylings the extraordinary synthesis of the traditional and the avant-garde. Dot Levine is New Jersey's son and heir apparent. Praise their holy jams!" -Gwendolyn Rooker
"Haha! Thanks for the accolades, y'all!" -Dot Levine

This week I got to be a badkhn with an all star klezmer band who played some charts I wrote for an amazing event with amazing people. The next day I got flowers sent to me from a very cool person I’m dating. Today and yesterday I’m working on an awesome synth rock record. Things are looking up. 🥰

Good morning, beauts!
I’d like to invite you to The Shalom Center’s Hoshana Rabbah ActiFest tomorrow evening at Masjidullah in Philly (and virtually). I’ll be leading an all-star klezmer band, singing, and practicing the ancient art of badkhones as a sacred jewish jester. The singular Simha Toledano will be emceeing and ritual-leading! There will be a gameshow in which the winner gets to be inscribed in the book of life before the gates close (or do they?) and a cathartic klezmer dance party to end the night, celebrating the importance of self-care and community-care. Also dinner and birthday cake to celebrate R’ Waskow’s 91st! (food and cake regrettably not available for virtual attendants)
I’m super proud of what we’ve been able to achieve for this event. I hope you can make it! Reserve your free tickets before the gates of registration close. More info and registration here:
