Progress in Newport, RI. This project marks the third Gilded Age mansion where we have had the pleasure of being part of the restoration team. It been an amazing experience, allowing us to return to our forged iron roots.

Spent the day in Hyde Park at the Vanderbilt Mansion, researching the ironwork handrail for an upcoming job in Newport, Rhode Island. Both residences were designed by McKim, Mead, and White. And, both handrails are believed to be fabricated by the same ironworker. Unfortunately, the original ironwork in Newport has been lost to history. Special thanks to the National Park Service for their insight and allowing the behind the scenes tour.

Be sure to check out the photo of the corner sample / maquette. Samples are hugely helpful to our work. They help from client communication to defining an approach on the shop floor. Sometimes, several sample iterations are required before committing to bespoke production.

This project was completed years ago when we were just starting to get set up. It is still one of our favorites. Lots of stainless steel throughout the residence and unbelievable views.

Work in Process for . Folded stainless steel basement stair. Our number one challenge on the piece, other than fit and finish, has been to manage the stack up tolerance across the sheer number of folds in the stair. Each tread was toleranced, welded, and polished invisibly.

Recently completed steel, glass, and white oak feature staircase on the New Jersey Coast. This turn key project presented a unique set from challenges for heavy on-site steel fabrication to details installation of the white oak tread, and nosings. Thrilled with the final product and s/o to .l.miner for the top tier coordination.
